I got to spend another week looking forward to a peaceful adventure. No one prepares you for the quiet ache of raising a son.

It isn’t the sleepless nights, the scraped knees, or the endless energy that stay with you the longest.

It’s the day you realize he doesn’t need you the way he once did.

One day, he’s reaching for your hand without thinking.

The next, he’s walking a few steps ahead, eager to find his own path.

His voice grows deeper.

His shoulders grow broader.

When you ask how he’s doing, he smiles and says, “I’m okay.”

And you choose to believe him, even when your heart wonders if there’s more he isn’t saying.

He no longer climbs into your lap.

Instead, he sits beside you on the couch, his shoulder gently brushing yours.

It seems like such a small thing.

To a mother, it’s everything.

He may not tell you every detail of his life anymore.

But before making a big decision, he’ll still ask,

“What do you think?”

He wants the freedom to stand on his own.

Yet deep inside, he still hopes you’re watching.

He still wants to make you proud.

He still finds comfort in knowing you’re there.

The truth is, boys never stop needing their mothers.

They simply learn to love in quieter ways.

You’ll see it in the glance over his shoulder before he leaves.

In the soft “Mom?” called from another room.

In the phone call asking for advice.

In the silent confidence that comes from knowing you’ll always be his safe place.

You never truly lose your little boy.

He simply grows into a man who carries your love differently.

And watching that transformation is one of the greatest privileges—and one of the deepest heartbreaks—a mother will ever know.

If you’re raising a son, you understand this feeling.

It’s bittersweet, beautiful... and worth every moment. 💙 by @vaneagauthier

Took a ride this weekend to spend some time “away”
You don’t need to travel far to get away from your daily life. Take a break. Take a ride. Set up camp and just enjoy the peaceful silence of the wilderness.

Day 4 in the mountains …started with brining Eddie to a vet clinic (if you know Ed that’s not a surprise) he injured his eye being Ed running through the woods. Thankfully we found the Lone Pine Animal Hospital in Challis, ID they checked him out and got him meds first thing in the morning. On the drive back we hit up some hot springs along the Salmon River in the rain- it was perfect! Something I’ve always wanted to do!
Had a failed attempt at an afternoon hike at Stanley Lake but got stuck in a hail storm after about 10 min😂
Best laid plans… we will be back (prob without dogs)
But I will say Stanley is a super dog friendly little town- pets are welcome most places. by @vaneagauthier

Today was Day 3 in the mountains. We had big plans for an early morning shuttle across Redfish lake and a full day hike to Benches Lakes. 5am brought 2 pups that we sensed needed a day off from hiking.
So day 3 was a relaxing day spent walking for sunrise cocoa and baked goods at Stanley Baking Co, a beautiful drive through the Challis National Forest to see the Yankee Fork Gold Dredge and a little ways past we came upon the abandoned Ghost Town of Custer, Idaho- an old mining town from the late 1800’s , abandoned in 1910 and preserved as a historic site.
We ended the day with a drive to Pettit Lake just before sunset so the pups could enjoy a clear mountain lake swim, Pizza from Papa Brunee’s and a sunset above the peaks that took our breath away . taken in Stanley, Idaho by @vaneagauthier
