Majored in Biochemistry cause I got that Central DOGma in me🐩🧬👩‍🔬

(Pt. 1/2)Finally, after years of long, hard, and earnest work, shedding blood, sweat, and tears, I have earned my bachelor’s degree in Biochemistry. I was the last one in my family to finally get a college degree, and I have never been prouder of myself and of my family for their never-ending support. For those who do not know, I dedicated this entire degree to my mom because she supported my journey financially and emotionally, and I was finally able to achieve a college degree for both of us, since she did not have the opportunity to get one. No matter how hard the homework, exam, or lab was, I always thought that I was doing this for her, and with that constant motivation, I accomplished both of our dreams! Looking back at the time, decisions, and effort I spent to get this degree, I regret nothing. I truly believe everything that happened needed to happen, and every person I had crossed paths with I needed to meet for me to become the person I am. Whether that was not being able to immediately go into a 4-year and being a transfer student, or meeting people from all backgrounds, gender, etc.

(Pt.2/2) Speaking of gender, throughout my entire life, I have never truly felt comfortable in my own body or being “myself”. However, only at times when I express my femininity do I feel truly comfortable. From my toddler self wearing someone’s clean underwear as my “long hair” and dancing to the theme song of “Mari Mar”, a filipino telesyre, to wearing makeup and dragging myself up at school dances and formal events. Being able to see how so many people express femininity from different walks of life, I have finally discovered something about myself, something that I was always trying to hide for the longest time. Today I’m coming out to all of you to say that I am a woman🏳️‍⚧️💜. I would also like to reintroduce myself as Vanessa Vitan and I prefer she/they pronouns. However, as I know many people still know me as Gabriel/Gabe and I do not mind being referred to as such. Just like taken in Japanese Tea Garden , Golden Gate Park by @vanessavitan_

but for real, this past year at ucla, i have met and connected with some really amazing people and have learned so many lessons, both academically and life-based. some of these same connections and relationships i know will be for a lifetime. i wish i could have included more photos of all the amazing people i met but you know who you are and thank you for all that have been so supportive, with me right back to support you as well🙂‍↕️🫡 cheers to this past year and cheers to my incoming second year💜💜💜🫶🫶🫶
