I took this video tonight to send to this dog’s owner but I figured I would share it with K9 handlers and dog owners. If you have been to my seminars, read my book, or worked with me, you have heard me talk about things that can cause issues in ALL dogs. One of those is too much freedom of movement. In this video you can hear me use tone avoidance to get the dog away from the food but that’s not the point of this post. When you see your dog wandering around aimlessly like this dog you need to step in and put him on place, in a crate, or a down stay. Be the LEADER he needs. He obviously doesn’t know what he should be doing. The answer is almost always nothing. You need to do nothing kiddo. Be The Way, The Truth, and the Life for your dog. ALL dogs are followers. They must have a leader. That’s you!!!!! Remember; freedom doesn’t give a dog freedom. Structure gives a dog freedom. by @vanessk9

Wrapped up another e collar without conflict seminar yesterday. This time with the Connecticut State Police. Sponsored by @vik9s I already knew a few of the guys. Back at it. Traveling again so doing drop ins. I have been to this gym before as a white belt. So might as well stick with what I know is good. Tonight had a great class. There was 8-9 black belts on the mat. Plenty of purple and blue belts too. The instruction was good. I like how the instructor ran the class. It was a good time. I will be back again tomorrow night for a no gi class. Oh and this is a police owned gym. I like it. @manchesterbjj by @vanessk9

Another E Collar Without Conflict seminar in the books. Down in Dothan, Alabama. My second time here. We had a great week. Made some real changes in some teams as well as set some new teams on the right path. Flying home tonight and Sunday driving to Connecticut to work with Connecticut State Police and @vik9s by @vanessk9

This is my second time down here to teach my e collar class. This is quickly becoming one of my favorite places to teach. Dothan PD K9 and the surrounding agencies are thirsty for learning. They have an amazing facility that would make any unit jealous. Their trainers know their shit yet they still bring in all kinds of instructors. I did this class in 2024 and the guys that were in it stopped by. They are still using the stuff I taught them on the daily. New guys in this class are in good hands. It’s so refreshing to see an agency that supports K9 instead of making them the bastard children. Gold work boys. I see you. by @vanessk9

This would be gym 39 but I was here 2 years ago so still 38 and counting. Great no gi fundamentals class. Worked snap downs and a few ways to the back from standing. Good rolls too. Will be back Thursday night by @vanessk9

Tactical Obedience – Video 1Layering stimulus, pushing proximity, exposing spatial pressure, and getting the dogs comfortable moving with officers and other K9s. No biting, no fighting, and no barking allowed!Too often, K9s are overlooked and not called to scenes by tactical teams (warrant squads, homicide squads, jump teams, SWAT teams, etc.). The reason is simple: the dog is viewed as a liability. They bark non-stop, will bite anyone who gets too close, and the handler becomes nervous about other people approaching. This either forces the handler out from behind the stack or leaves the dog so far in the rear that it’s ineffective when actually needed.Tactical obedience is all about achieving real control, absolute clarity, super-close proximity, 100% neutrality, and social stability. The dog bites when we say to bite — not when someone gets close, bumps into them, or has to step by.If you don’t train it, you will never get it.#policedog #policedogtraining by @vanessk9
