Saturday featured pairing in both shops: cheese and chocolate! In Montclair we are pairing incredible handmade Wensleydale from @curlewdairy and 49% dark milk chocolate from local legends @vestachocolate!

In Jersey City, a traditional bandaged cheddar from Ford Farm, Wookey Hole, is paired with @woodblockchocolate dark milk. If you’ve never tried chocolate and cheese together, you are in for a treat! by @vanhookcheese

This month’s box is all about curds (today is National Cheese Curd Day!), and how they are treated differently in cheese. We are featuring Ragusano (pasta filata, or stretched curd), English bandaged cheddar (cheddared curd), 18-month gruyere (cooked and pressed curd), Sneek Gouda (washed curd), and Bijou (lactic-set curd).

Because we all need some silly news right now…it’s National Moldy Cheese Day!

Isle of Mull is a superb raw milk cheddar from northwest Scotland. Its flavor is deep and complex, with fruity, savory, and mustardy notes.

Though not a “blue” cheese in the traditional sense, this cheddar is handmade, and the occasional crack or fissure in the paste allows native molds to create blue-green streaks throughout the cheese. These molds are harmless, and their flavor is much milder than the spicy blue veins found in typical blue cheeses. by @vanhookcheese

A little cheese shop with SO much to offer!

@vanhookcheese in Jersey City is a specialty shop dedicated to artisan cheeses from near and far, with everything from familiar favorites to varieties you’ve probably never heard of. The staff really knows their cheese and is happy to help you discover something new!

Beyond the cheese counter, you’ll find cured meats, crackers, jams, spreads, olives and all sorts of specialty pantry items. They also put together beautiful cheese and charcuterie boards, making it a great stop when you’re hosting, bringing something to a gathering or just treating yourself.

I love specialty shops like this, where you can take your time, ask questions and learn a little about what you’re buying. ❤️
