ATTENTION Birdfoot Delta sportsmen: @louisianacpra wants to hear from you

If you fish or hunt in the Birdfoot Delta, this is an opportunity to learn more about an important coastal restoration projects and make sure the sportsmen’s perspective is part of the conversation.

The Louisiana Coastal Protection and Restoration Authority (CPRA) will host a public meeting on the Birdfoot Delta Hydrologic Restoration Project to provide an update and gather feedback from those who know and use this area.

The project is designed to restore sediment-rich freshwater flows from the Mississippi River into the eastern and southern Birdfoot Delta, helping address wetland loss, support delta growth, and enhance habitat for Louisiana’s wildlife and fisheries.

Proposed work includes dredging portions of Pass a Loutre, South Pass, Southeast Pass, and the Pilottown Anchorage.

From Louisiana’s marshes and bayous to its woods and fields, hunting and fishing connect us to the places and wildlife we work so hard to protect. On National Hunting and Fishing Day, we’re reminded that sportsmen have a powerful voice in conservation. We must continue speaking up for healthy habitats, thriving wildlife and fisheries, and access to the outdoors. Allowing future generations to have the opportunity to hunt, fish, and carry these traditions forward. #sportsmansparadise #louisiana #nationalhuntingandfishingday #hunting #fishing taken in Louisiana by @vanishing_paradise

Bill Cooksey is a world championship duck caller and has been duck hunting for more than five decades. He is a devoted conservationist who is concerned about potential changes for wetlands conservation in the Prairie Pothole region. If anyone knows what waterfowl need, it’s Bill.

Let @usfws know that longstanding protections for these critical wetlands need to stay in place. by @vanishing_paradise

When we prioritize the restoration and protection of coastal areas, we all win - especially sportsmen. This is clear when looking at two new seasons on the table for Louisiana in 2026 - one for black-bellied whistling ducks, another for recreational alligator hunting.

We had a great time with @captdondingman and the @evergladesfoundation last month in America’s Everglades, where we were able to get some young anglers out on the water to learn more about the sport and the importance of restoring fresh water flows in this incredibly unique habitat.

We tangled with tripletail, snook and sharks in the mangroves ➡️ Check out this episode of Hook the Future on the Sportsman Channel this Sunday at 1:00 PM CT for some fast action and to learn about this treasured habitat! by @vanishing_paradise

Last month, we joined state, federal and parish leaders to celebrate restoration progress in the Breton Sound, in southeast Louisiana. 🎉

The projects found here are a coordinated system working together to rebuild one of the most productive hunting and fishing regions in coastal Louisiana. Click the link in our bio to read our latest blog about these projects and their benefits for sportsmen! by @vanishing_paradise

June 18th is National Fishing Day! A healthy habitat is the foundation of strong fisheries. When investments are made in restoring marshes and natural structure it provides more fish which provides more opportunity for anglers. Let’s keep building better fisheries for the next generation.

This week, staff and supporters from Vanishing Paradise, the National Wildlife Federation, the Everglades Foundation, Captains for Clean Water and dozens of other supporters and advocates for America’s Everglades met with legislators and staff on Capital Hill to drive home the message that Everglades restoration is working and needs their continued support.

The Comprehensive Everglades Restoration Plan is delivering projects that will help to store and clean water before sending it south to protect habitats, fuel Florida’s tourism economy and provide clean drinking water for millions of people. Thanks to all who joined in the effort to continue driving restoration forward in the Everglades. Together we can ensure that the Everglades are thriving for generations to come. by @vanishing_paradise

Happy American Wetlands Month! 🐊 We’re taking a moment to highlight one of the largest and most recognizable wetlands in the U.S. - the Everglades. At VP, we work with the many sportsmen who hunt and fish in this area, along with the @evergladesfoundation and partner orgs to protect and restore this incredibly important area.
