There are so many beautiful ways to remember a child. Some families release balloons, watching them drift off out of sight. It’s such a beautiful tribute.

For us, there’s this thing we do for remembering Judah.

Every year, we wear shirts made just for him. Shortly after he went to heaven, our priest referred to him as a Servant of God. The moment I heard those words, something settled deep in my heart. I knew that was who he is, and I knew that, in his own little way, that’s what he’s doing.

Since then, “Judah Beckett, Servant of God” has become part of his story, and part of ours. It’s printed on the yearly shirts we wear, and more importantly every prayer we pray, a reminder that love doesn’t end, and neither does his place in our family. With all our hearts we know he is fully alive in Heaven.

This day will probably always be both bittersweet. We miss him deeply, yet we celebrate him with the same love we would if he were here blowing out candles beside us.

This year, Judah’s siblings were determined to make his birthday full of joy. They planned, celebrated, played, and reminded us that even in grief, there is still room for happiness. They made this day so special—just like they do every year—and I know their little brother would have loved every moment.
