Théières des Indes, Sèvres, c. 1778, in a painting by Willes Maddox, commissioned in 1844 as one of three ´portraits’ of William Beckford’s collection by his daughter Susan, @beckfordstower
The teapot is at Brodick Castle, @nationaltrustforscotland
The arrangement in the painted portrait would not have amused her poppa!

Portrait of Richard Windle (1721-1786), of St. Clement Danes parish, London and Shropshire, c. 1750-55, with a Kangxi vase, c.1700-15, painting sold @sothebys, 2 July 2026, lot 382. He may have been in partnership with John Weatherby, John Crowther (both investors in the Bow porcelain factory) and a Thomas Quintin, at the Green Yard Glasshouse, at East Smithfield, until 1759, when the first two left the partnership. And later perhaps in partnership as Maydwell & Windle, glassmakers to George III at the King’s Arms on the Strand. The beaker vase (gu-form) with its distinctive bulging middle section is hopefully identifiable, proudly displayed and depicted in Windle’s portrait.

An elegant trade card for Weatherby, Crowther, Quintin and Windle, is in the British Museum, Heal,66.75

The final room is an explosion of pink and green painted porcelain evoking a Sèvres disco in the Riviera in the 1970s! Or to misquote @alanmeasles a Glastonbury for people who wore @pierrecardin Just one part of the brilliant exhibition in Paris @mobiliernational « Sèvres, une passion Rothschild » on until 26 July. #raveriviera
