Heyoo 👋🏾

I wanted to take a moment to thank everyone for all of the support and love surrounding my art! I’m having so much fun and have so many ideas to get out into the world!

I started painting a little over a year ago as a way to step away from the screen and make something with my hands. I wanted another place to focus my creative energy even after designing all day haha.

So here’s to more fun, more colors, less worry, and simple joy!

Thank youuuu ✌🏾 by @vashaunbrandon

We’d recognize @vashaunbrandon’s hand-iwork anywhere by @vashaunbrandon

The Department of Art + Design welcomes @vashaunbrandon to talk about his work, career, and love for creating as part of our Visiting Artist Lecture Series!

Originally from South Boston, Virginia, Vashaun Brandon is an artist, illustrator, and graphic designer based in Richmond. A graduate of Christopher Newport University with a background in business marketing and political science, he began his career in marketing before transitioning into design, bringing a strategic perspective and playful sensibility to his creative work.

Professionally, Vashaun specializes in branding, signage, and environmental graphics, creating thoughtful visual experiences that connect people with places and ideas. Beyond his design practice, he explores a variety of creative mediums, including painting, sewing, and illustration, embracing curiosity and experimentation along the way.

His personal art practice turns expressive hand gestures into bold, colorful compositions. These pieces celebrate movement, communication, and human connection. Using simplified geometric forms, vibrant color, and rhythmic repetition, Vashaun has built a distinct visual language. In it, familiar gestures take on new personalities. His work captures the warmth, humor, and joy of everyday moments. It invites viewers to find something extraordinary in the ordinary.
