They came in their kilts, sporrans, tartans and ghillie brogues to bring a touch of Scotland to beachside Ventura. The weather felt a bit Gaelic as well, with clouds gathering as the afternoon drew on during the annual Seaside Highland Games. The few drops of rain that fell didn’t dampen spirits, which were buoyed by the sounds of bagpipes, flutes and drums. Participants partook in dance, athletic and even sheepherding competitions to the delight of fans young and old alike. It was a weekend worthy of toasting with a fine aged Scotch. 📸: @67billh

The Port of Hueneme went bananas once again as the only commercial deep-water port between Los Angeles and San Francisco celebrated with its annual fruit-inspired party, the Banana Festival. Held on Sept. 26, attendees came out — many wearing yellow — to sample any number of treats made with bananas. They also danced to live music, played banana-themed games and enjoyed special tours. Even after everyone split at the conclusion of the event, the memories of a day of merriment in the oceanside sun remained. 📸: @67billh

Students for Eco-Education and Agriculture promotes the agriculture industry in Ventura and Santa Barbara counties through farm tours and classroom programs. The nonprofit founded in 2008 is now planting roots in a more physical way with the lease of county-owned farmland wedged between the Juvenile Justice Facilities complex and Food Share headquarters in El Rio. ArtWalk Ventura returned to Downtown Ventura and the Westside last weekend, featuring dozens of participating locations, countless artists and a variety of live performances to boot. From the open studios at Bell Arts Factory to the colorful mandala painted on the street in front of the mission to the bands rocking the California and Main Stage and CineFest film festival at the Cinemark movie theater, there were three solid miles of creativity to explore. Local photographer and “man about town” @67billh showed up on Sunday, Sept. 27, to capture the moment.
