One week ago was my 10 year anniversary in Turonno. It feels simultaneously like a century ago and also just yesterday that I moved here on a whim with no plan. I’m so proud of past me for trusting I would figure it out. We did it! More to do and see and experience and accomplish but you really did it. This city is a gift and it keeps on giving, even when it feels hard. Special shout out to all the beautiful people that this town brought into my life. You enrich my life in ways I can’t even begin to express and make living here worth it! So many lessons learned, jobs worked, shows attended and laughs had. This post can’t contain the ride this city has been. So many wins and a few losses but I I’m grateful for it all the same 💖💖 Here’s a random smattering of photos from the past 10. by @vconrecon

40 spins around the sun. Wild… because I dont look a day over 27, even tho the haters will say 35 minimum lol turning 40 has felt exciting and scary and as my therapist put it, it’s the first milestone birthday where you’re simultaneously looking forward and back. I’ve never been so aware of how precious time is while always coming back to a place of gratefulness bc not everyone makes this milestone. As the world burns and lives are senseless taken, I’m acutely aware of the privilege of ageing.

Thank you for the birthday wishes (I better get way more after posting or else frens off!!) I’m so blessed to share time and space with so many incredible, compassionate, creative, intelligent and loving ppl. You all inspire me, thank you for being in my life however often or infrequently, it means so much 💖 Shout out to my parents for always supporting me despite the stress my adventurous soul perpetually causes them. They’ve always been an endless well of support and I don’t take that for granted. Finally, shout out to my partner in shenanigans. Someone who always dares me to dream my biggest dream and supports me in every way to have it come to fruition.

To celebrate 40 I get to cross off a bucket list destination… so pumped to experience and eat absolutely everything in sight in Hong Kong

Kiki Dee, my queen. You were everything. A week ago Kiki crossed the rainbow bridge peacefully at home in one of her fave sunny spots, on the housecoat she usurped from me and received endless brushies (as we called it when I brushed her hair)on. I snuggled her and whispered endless I love you’s and promised that she wouldn’t have to struggle to get full breaths anymore. The last almost year we had been treating her for asthma and the last couple months we tried to get a more definitive diagnosis. After ruling out several things, it was ultimately likely cancer. She soldiered on these last two months playing, eating, cleaning herself, purring up a storm and being her sassy ass self. But she was deteriorating and I knew something was up. Despite an extremely unkind visit to the emerg vet, the only thing I needed to know what that she wasnt getting enough oxygen into her lil bod. Even tho she was checking many of the quality of life check boxes, I knew that the most loving thing I could do is make damn sure I relieve her of any suffering she was hiding. When I adopted her I remember someone saying something like “you are signing up for heartbreak and one of the hardest days of your life.” Whew, they were not lying.

She sassed this realm for 15/16-ish years and she was the queen of my world for nearly 10. We truly loved each other and that love is so pure. I’m so grateful we got to spend the rest of her life together and have the best time. There is so much I miss about her, there’s a giant emptiness in the apartment and no one is knocking things off the dresser to get attention at whatever godawful time you wanted attention but goddamn id pull an Ariel and make a deal with Ursula just have you curl up under my right arm and turn into a certified purr machine just one more time. It was your world, I was just happily living in it. I miss every single one of your quirks and mannerisms and one day I’ll share them all but right now I’ll ride the waves of emotions and holdfast to the joy that was our bond.

Rest in peace my squidgy widgy, chunky monk, terrorista, girlie, queen Kiki Dee ❤️
