Mental health in the black community, specifically black men, is heavily stigmatized. It’s often looked at as taboo or feminine for men to speak on feelings or get help/go to therapy. When I first heard this Kendrick song, I immediately thought about the men in my life, how society boxes them in, the battles I’ve seen them fight, the things they’ve overcome, how tough strong they are, even when they don’t have to be. Through this piece, I wanted to express that and show that they don’t have to do it alone and it’s ok not to be ok. This piece is not only dedicated to those who have lost a battle with mental health, but those still fighting.

Special thank you to my brother Amarii for the powerful spoken word at the top of the piece. It gives me chills every time I hear it. If y’all aren’t following him…. Y’all should now. Bro’s finna be a household name soon! taken in Tucker Theatre by @ve2sweet

And my men?!? THANK YOU TO MY MEN!!!!

I HAVE to give these beautiful black kings their flowers. If you knew the journey we went on doing this piece….. whew. My Elite 8…. It’s hard to put into words how much y’all mean to me. So let me start by saying THANK YOU! Without you, MENtal would have never come to life the way it has. The hard work, the dedication, the occasional tears (from me of course) was all worth it. Thank you for telling your stories and the stories of so many others on that stage.

Shan, Chris, Melvin…. I know I have told y’all 1000 times over how thankful I am for y’all. Please know I’m going to let you know 1000 more times. I couldn’t have asked for a better trio.

Brandon, Quan, Lee, Kinny, Trell… the way y’all grinded it out, pushed yourselves? Y’all showed up and showed out, even though this isn’t your primary style. You guys shined on that stage like stars. Thank you for rolling with me no matter what.

My 1st National conference was definitely one to remember. 🩸🐾
I met so many new faces and got to reconnect with some.
From Chapter Warz, to Service, late nights in the parking lot, & even crashing a wedding reception, the memories are endless and the knowledge & passion I picked up was even more. I can’t wait to continue to do the work, grow, & flourish in this wonderful fraternity. by @ve2sweet

🎬Thats a Wrap on the 24-25 MPAC Season🎬
I couldn’t ask for a better 2nd year as Assistant Director.

To the members, whether you danced for me or not, thank you for the countless hours of work you put in the studio, the shows, Homecoming tailgate, workshops, Apollo, Walk Like A Sigma, Courtyard Wednesday, or any of the countless tabling events. Your hard work paid off.

To the choreographers, watching yalls art come to life on the stage and showcasing your talent for all the world to see is nothing short of amazing. I can’t wait to see what yall bring next year.

To Mama Angela, thank you for seeing me and trusting me to lead beside you. It means the world to me more than you know.
