The CHI owes me “nathaniel” (if you know you know). 5K ✅ Marathon ✅ and along the way, many unforgettable experiences were had. I’m still on the high of an incredible weekend and it may be a few before I come down. Still amazed at the crowds! 🤦🏾‍♂️I had to use some real restraint off in that Nike Store.
🙌🏾 That “you’re now in the 1% feeling” hits strong even on Marathon Number 2! ✌🏾We stay official with it! The 🅰️ was strong in The CHI.

CHICAGO MARATHON 2026 🏁🏅⭐️
5:31:28 - 26.2 Miles. Three Years in the Making.

Three years ago, at age 49, members of my Waffle House Crew (WHC) challenged me to run a 5K. I accepted, but insisted that 3.1 miles was my LIMIT! 😂

As an original ATL-ien, I eventually had to experience the Peachtree Road Race in 2025. That first 10K led to the Triple Peach, Ultimate Peach, my first half marathon on Thanksgiving Day 2025, and the Publix Atlanta Marathon in March 2026.

Seven months later, I just completed my SECOND marathon—CHICAGO, my first Abbott World Marathon Major! 🌎⭐🏅 One of eight worldwide!

When I signed up, I figured I’d maintain my fitness from Atlanta, “fundrace” through a charity, and run Chicago with my WHC family. WRONG! 🤦🏾‍♂️🤣

I underestimated the time, training, and sacrifice required for two marathons in one year. Between work, travel, injuries, and life, there were plenty of challenges. More importantly, training meant time away from my wife, sons, family, and friends. That’s a lesson I’ll carry forward. No regrets, but no more than one marathon per year is the deal!😂

Three years ago, I wouldn’t run more than 3.1 miles. Today, I’ve completed two marathons.

Running has become a world of its own—training, mileage, shoes, gear, recovery, and community. If you know, you know. If you don’t, no problem at all! 😂

Chicago didn’t give me the time I wanted, but it gave me memories and lessons I’ll carry forever.

No regrets. Plenty of lessons. Tremendous gratitude.

God is good! 🙏🏾

🏆🥇I’m still basking in the aftermath of the accomplishment, mine and my folks in the ATL running community.
🏃🏾‍♂️‍➡️🏃🏾‍♀️‍➡️🏃🏼‍➡️🏃🏼‍♀️‍➡️🏃🏻‍➡️🏃🏻‍♀️‍➡️🏃🏿‍➡️🏃🏾‍♂️‍➡️
✌🏾Somebody along the course said, “you making it look easy big dawg!”. I said thanks and kept it moving, thinking I just continue to move like a duck, 🦆 smooth on the surface but running like hell underneath! 🏃🏾‍♂️💨

Along with the pics, I’m sharing some of my key affirmations for life:

🏁🔥Chicago Marathon 2026 — 30 DAYS OUT!

Well, we are officially 30 days away from the 48th annual running of the Chicago Marathon, and despite this current elbow injury that has me sidelined, I’m still excited to be in the race alongside 55,000+ other athletes and I have every intention of finishing all 26.2 miles!

🤦🏾‍♂️🩼Don’t get me wrong—not being able to run for two weeks at this point in the training plan is a true obstacle. There are miles I’d much rather be putting in right now. But the work already completed matters. The early mornings, late evenings, long runs, workouts, travel runs, good days, tough days—and all of those deposits made over the past several months—don’t suddenly disappear because I’ve been forced to hit pause.

💪🏾Right now, the assignment is to heal, be smart, stay ready and get back after it when I’m cleared. And trust me…I’m READY!

For this race, I also have the opportunity to “fund-race” for Back on My Feet @backonmyfeet supporting their work to help people overcome homelessness and addiction through fitness, community and employment resources. That means these 26.2 miles are about more than just me.

🏃🏾On October 11, I’ll line up for my second marathon with the goal of making myself proud, making Back on My Feet proud, and finishing what I started!

🤦🏾‍♂️Deja Vu!! Man Down!! But this time it’s the right elbow in a full arm splint for this right-handed guy! An elbow injury while training for another marathon?? Yep! In January it happened to my left elbow before the ATL Publix Marathon. This time it’s on a bigger stage, a world major (Chicago Marathon 2026) and it’s less than 33 days out. 🙏🏾Meanwhile, the doctor’s orders are “no running Mr. Veal, for 2 weeks” 🤦🏾‍♂️🤦🏾‍♂️🤦🏾‍♂️ I can’t wait to get back at it! What a story to be told!
