A cycling club for all women, all trans people, and all non-binary people in London. Want to join our skills sessions or club? DM us! 💅🔥🚴 #Velociposse
POSTS STORIES REELS TAGGED
Our Open letter to @wearecyclinguk :

Dear Cycling UK,

Back in 2022, there was growing resentment and frustration amongst our members surrounding British Cycling’s Transgender and Non-Binary Participation Policy and with their organisation as a whole. We consequently affiliated with you to provide our members an alternative way to join the club, bypassing the need to sign up as a British Cycling member. As a group we’re proud to have been featured in Cycling UK articles highlighting LGBTQ+-friendly cycling clubs and have had several club members awarded in your 100 Women in Cycling lists.

We were therefore surprised and disappointed to learn that in this year’s edition, trans women were excluded from nomination. As a club for all women, non-binary and trans people, it feels immensely unjust that part of our community is prevented from being recognised for their contributions to women’s cycling. At a time when transphobia is on the rise, these awards could have been an opportunity to demonstrate your support for those most marginalised and vulnerable in society.

Whilst we have heard that some changes will be made to the way these awards are run next year, we very much hope that whatever is in store, trans-inclusion is a priority.

Yours faithfully,
Velociposse by @velociposse

Cycling is a symbol of freedom and autonomy. Velociposse has consistently campaigned against the violence and discrimination of marginalised communities.

Seeing the horrors unfold in a besieged Gaza, we are compelled to acknowledge and support the struggles of those beyond our community.

We echo the global demand for an end to the indiscriminate violence still escalating against the people of Gaza. We stand in solidarity with Palestine and 76% of the UK population calling for a ceasefire. Stop the genocide, end the siege.

Our thoughts are with everyone affected by what is happening, you are not alone.

Here is a selection of concrete actions that you can take to support the Palestinian people in pursuit of peace and freedom.

▫ Join a local solidarity demonstration. There is one on Saturday, see @palestinesolidarityuk. Wear a mask and stay safe.
▫ Boycott products from companies that are complicit in Israel’s occupation @bdsnationalcommittee
▫ Mobilise your union, community, council, church, or association to join the Boycott, Divest and Sanction movement
▫ Join your local branch of the Palestine Solidarity Campaign to start organising with others
▫ Write your MP to demand immediate action to protect civilians
▫ Educate yourself with all the incredible resources and reading lists that people are putting together and follow accounts like @palestineyouthcampaign @jewishvoiceforpeace @eye.on.palestine @palestinesolidarityuk

We cannot be free until all of us are free 🇵🇸

At Velociposse, we’re massive fans of track cycling. Many of our members first caught the track bug at Herne Hill Velodrome and we love the community there.

We’re always keen to get more women, trans and non-binary people into track and further increase the diversity of people doing it. To facilitate this, we’ll be subsidising 10 spaces at Herne Hill Velodrome’s Women’s Track Tasters for women of colour or non-binary people of colour who feel comfortable in a women centred space. These sessions normally cost £20, but with the discount code they’ll cost £5.

To receive a discount code, please ensure that you meet the eligibility requirements (in addition to being a woman of colour or non-binary person of colour) below and complete the form linked in the Velociposse bio.

Please note that you’ll still have to book onto the session via Herne Hill Velodrome’s Eventrac page. Codes will be issued on a first come, first served basis. If necessary, we will operate a waiting list.

Eligibility:

You must have never taken part in a track cycling taster before or last took part in one over 12 months ago and not ridden track since.
You must be available to attend one of Herne Hill Velodrome’s Women’s Track Tasters within 2 months of receiving the code. These normally take place in the afternoon of the first Sunday of the month.

Got any questions? Send Velociposse a DM.

Yesterday’s @velociposse slow skills with @bike.dykes and @wccc_uk was ace! We started with a game of shrinking island, practised some cornering and did some look mum, no hands (massive well done to everyone who rode hands free for the first time 👏🏾 🥳) and thanks for everyone who came. The next Clapton session will be on August 10th with sign ups opening a week before, click the link in the @velociposse bio for more info by @velociposse

Upcoming Velociposse Slow Skills at Clapton Girls School on Monday 13 July and Monday 10 August (7pm both days) is in collaboration with Bike Dykes and Women of Colour Cycling Collective. It’s open to any woman, trans or non-binary person regardless of sexual orientation or ethnicity.

Like all Velociposse Slow Skills, it’s traffic-free and designed to improve your bike handling, cornering and coordination: there's no point going fast without the control. They're run by several club members who are level 1 or 2 British Cycling coaches. No pressure, lots of fun.

Most cycles are suitable as long as they are roadworthy: no fixed gear bikes please. Wear whatever you want as long as it's comfy and doesn't get in the way – but you must wear a helmet for this session.

Filming and photography will be taking place. *Please inform the coach at the start of the session if you don’t want your picture taken.*

*Due to limited spaces, you must sign up via the Spond app to take part. https://spond.com/invite/GILBI Sign up will open a week before each session.*

April’s social laps with our friends @wccc_uk & @velociposse 💞

These sessions are aimed at beginners with little to no experience of group riding. So, if you’re not quite confident on the road and fancy going for a spin with a group of friendly faces, try catch one of these!

Open to members of all three groups + anyone who’s thinking of joining either Bike Dykes, Velociposse or WCCC 💫 by @velociposse

We’re teaming up with Velociposse and Bike Dykes again 🙌🏽

Meet at 9.45am on Saturday, April 11 for 30mins to 1hr hour of gentle laps in Regent’s Park, depending on how people feel

Open to members of all three groups + any woman, trans or non-binary person *of any ethnicity* who’s thinking of joining @wccc_uk, @velociposse and/or @bike.dykes ✨

All bikes are welcome! You don’t need to have a road bike for this. Please bring a helmet, lights & spare inner tube though

This session is aimed at beginners with little to no experience of group riding. It’ll be no-drop/party pace. Stronger riders are welcome as long as they’re prepared to go at everyone else’s pace

We’ll mainly be in the Inner Circle, with the option for more confident riders to split off & do the Outer Circle as well, before we all shift to one of the cafés in the park
