We are proud and humbled to be co-hosting a screening of "The Battle of Algiers" (1966) with our Algerian community members and friends on November 1st, a day with deep significance: On November 1st, 1954 a series of offensives took place by Algerian resistance forces against the French, ultimately signalling the start of the Algerian people's war for national liberation and decolonization. After victoriously gaining independence in 1962, this film was put into production and produced with involvement of FLN members!!!!!

As Vietnamese, our history is deeply intertwined with Algerians—across continents, our peoples connected politically, materially, and spiritually in shared oppression and struggle. France was fatally wounded in Vietnam with their defeat and surrender in May 1954, and months later in November 1954, Algeria started the process of burying them completely.

Following the screening of this revolutionary classic, our friends will lead a short teach-in on Algerian liberation history along with key profiles of freedom fighters featured in the film. Afterwards, we will contextualize Điện Biên Phủ and Vietnam's kháng chiến chống Pháp (First Indochina War; The Resistance War Against French) alongside Algeria.

🇸🇩🤝🇵🇸 Ticket proceeds and sales will go towards supporting Palestinian and Sudanese communities. Specifically @sudansolidaritycollective's work to support emergency response rooms in Sudan, Layali in Gaza, Grassroots Gaza's food and water distributions, and Adam Youth Team's school supply deliveries in North Gaza.

📆 Sunday November 1st @ 1-4PM
📍 Toronto (location shared after registration)
🎟️ $10 Admission
🎥 The film will have English subtitles
💬 This event will be facilitated in English

How did colonial rubber plantations help establish the Indochinese Communist Party in 1930? How did Vietnam inherit French plantations and nationalize it? What is decolonial ecology in a Vietnamese context?

In Vietnam, October 28th is ngày truyền thống ngành cao su Việt Nam, a designated day to commemorate rubber [plantation] workers’ history in Vietnam. We had worked in depth with last year's Reading Group on Hồi ký Phú Riềng Đỏ/The Red Earth, the memoir of rubber plantation worker and later Thiếu tướng Trần Tử Bình. Now, we want to bring discussions of land, liberation, and decoloniality in the context of colonial rubber plantations in Vietnam to the wider community as part of our ongoing program of accessible political education on Vietnamese people's history.

📆 TORONTO - Oct 24th, 21:00-22:30 EDT
📆 VIETNAM - Oct 25, 08:00-9:30 ICT
📍 Zoom (link shared upon registration)
🔗 Register now with LINK ON OUR PROFILE.

This is a free event, no prior experience or knowledge of the topics is required. This event will be facilitated in English. The Vietnamese documentary film will have English subtitles.

We join our city's upcoming action to commemorate and honour Palestinian land and Palestinian lives, lost and living, amidst the ongoing, accelerated genocide being committed against them at the hands of the Z¡onist entity and its imperial allies, including Kkkanada. There can and will be change made where we are - within the belly of the beast, in the heart of the imperial core. For example, learning and joining to advocate for demands that have real material consequences and detriments to Z¡onist power, influence, and reach:

1️⃣ 𝗧𝗪𝗢-𝗪𝗔𝗬 𝗔𝗥𝗠𝗦 𝗘𝗠𝗕𝗔𝗥𝗚𝗢: Canada must impose a comprehensive arms embargo on Ixrael, including both military and dual-use goods. No Canadian arms, weapons, components, or technologies that could contribute to violations of international law should be transferred or granted access to Ixrael.
2️⃣ 𝗦𝗔𝗡𝗖𝗧𝗜𝗢𝗡𝗦 𝗔𝗚𝗔𝗜𝗡𝗦𝗧 𝗜𝗫𝗥𝗔𝗘𝗟: Canada must impose broader sanctions on Ixrael in response to ongoing violations of international law and human rights. Canada must use its political and economic leverage to hold those responsible accountable.
3️⃣ 𝗙𝗥𝗘𝗘 𝗣𝗔𝗟𝗘𝗦𝗧𝗜𝗡𝗜𝗔𝗡 𝗣𝗢𝗟𝗜𝗧𝗜𝗖𝗔𝗟 𝗣𝗥𝗜𝗦𝗢𝗡𝗘𝗥𝗦: Canada must demand the immediate release of all Palestinian political prisoners held in Ixraeli prisons. Palestinians detained for political reasons must be released, and all detainees must be treated in accordance with international human rights and humanitarian law.

Today, Trần Tố Nga, an 84-year-old French-Vietnamese environmental activist, will appear in court against the 14 multinational chemical companies (including Bayer-Monsanto, Dow Chemical) that produced Agent Orange.

This is one of her last fights after 12 years of battles against these companies to get reparations for millions of victims in Vietnam, Laos, and Cambodia.

In the Spring season of 1975, the last of the invading and illegal u.s./western-allied forces evacuated our lands. April 30th is a finale of over a century of colonization, foreign occupation, imperial violence, and bombardment. Our people's sacrifice and struggle is what grounds us in our work and hearts on this day. As well, the unwavering international solidarity from sibling liberation forces and movements from around the world is what made this day possible.
——————
Our film program was curated with the intent to reflect and remember our people’s history, struggle, and afterlives. Through the lenses of international allies and contemporary Vietnamese directors, we were able to to experience different narratives and memories of such a significant day—from factory workers, to university students, civilians, veterans, family members, and more.

For us, today is a day of reflection—to remind ourselves that that harms within and across our Vietnamese communities still exist; of the importance of working towards nuance and critical understandings of past and present conditions, politics, and issues of our people; and that most of all, action is needed. To honour our peoples and history, and all those who may be silenced and no longer have the strength remember, it is up to us to go beyond censorship and ignorance to study our history, organize, study, and move towards better change.

[EVENT] ✶ 𝙁𝙄𝙇𝙈 𝙎𝙀𝙍𝙄𝙀𝙎 ✶
Tưởng Nhớ Tháng Tư: Warring Memories of Vietnam is a series of film screenings we will be hosting throughout the month of April to honour the history, legacy, and afterlife of April 30th, 1975. After decades of consecutive war, invasion and occupation from French, Japanese and U.S. forces, the Vietnamese people were victorious in reclaiming independence on one front, but were then met with an incredibly daunting struggle of rebuilding from the rubble, and in the face of new forms of violences.

We curated this program to feature unique lenses of remembering our people’s histories. Films range from archival pieces, to recent productions; works from Vietnamese directors and Cuban directors...and more!

Today, as our Vietnamese communities continue to encounter deliberate forms of forgetting and silencing, we insist on the importance of holding space to confront difficult questions and conversations. Following each screening, there will be a break and a brief discussion period to encourage thoughtful reflection, political dialogue, and critical thinking with community. All levels of participation and knowledge are welcome. Some context on Vietnamese history and politics will be given and recommended sources related to themes will be shared, but there are no formal teach-ins scheduled.

🌟 𝗧𝗛𝗔𝗡𝗞 𝗬𝗢𝗨 🌟
We sincerely thank you for joining us at our community film-screening and fundraiser, Chất Độc Đế Quốc on February 28th. The post is a message sent to us on March 12, 2026 from cô Nga herself (see pinned comment for translation).

First, we want to emphasize the kindness and generosity of fellow community members who supported us to cover the cost of facilitating the event, and allowed us to donate 100% of ticket revenues towards the legal fees for cô Trần Tố Nga. In total, we raised $700CAD 🧡

Groups and organizations in France like @collectifvietnamdioxine are continuing to work directly with cô Nga to raise more awareness for victim(s)-survivors of Agent Orange, encouraging further discourse and research, and supporting the next stage of legal battles against the chemical companies responsible for modern history’s first “ecocide”. If you are interested in contributing further to support cô Nga’s legal fees, the direct link we used to send our donations is on their profile. A note, the website is mainly in French and donations are accepted in Euros. If you need assistance, or have any questions, please contact us and we will try our best to help.

Today on International Women's Day we honour the women of Vietnam's anti-colonial, anti-imperialist and independence movements. In all aspects of society and struggle, in the factories, on the frontlines, in the fields, in the communes, in prisons—women's labour, intelligence, violence, and bravery have been a precious and sacred power for our people.

The following is an excerpt from one of our facilitators for tomorrow in response to the prompt, "chất độc đế quốc, the poison of empire":

For centuries, the greed and depravity of these parasites continues to destroy everything that is natural and sacred. Our bodies and collective memories inherit the scars left behind from their doing.

Forced consumption was architected on native populations to create markets for drugs and alcohol; our lands were seized and pillaged, "optimized" for extraction and "innovation" because we, the people of and on our own lands, were told that we did not know what was best; our blood, sweat, and bones were used to fertilize the plantation crops of the capitalists; our starvation fed the gluttons; colonial sciences exploited the differences among our people; we were conscripted to fight our kin, forced into the war-games of white men sitting far away…

Though I have inherited ailments, trauma, rage and sorrow from my ancestors, I carry a preciousness with all of that: a sense of duty and promise. They tried to exterminate us, poison us, but we continue to live stubbornly, defiantly, and loudly.

Join us for a film screening and community discussion tomorrow about the poisons of imperialism. Using the context of Agent Orange and chemical weapons used by the U.S. in Vietnam, we will be discussing how empires and capitalism inflicts violence not just on the lands and waters, but human bodies and livelihoods. This event is a fundraiser, all ticket proceeds will be going towards supporting cô Trần Tố Nga (More information on the ticketing website!)

Me and an incredible friend ❤️ translated the fanzine by @collectifvietnamdioxine which will be available for free at the event.

This gathering is made possible by the vital work of Collectif Vietnam-Dioxine, which I had the privilege to learn from in France who stand at the intersection of justice for Agent Orange victims, decolonial ecology, and global solidarity from Guadeloupe’s fight against chlordecone to Palestine and Lebanon’s struggles against chemical and colonial warfare.

Event Highlights:

Teach-in: Learn about Agent Orange and its ongoing impacts
Film Screening: The People vs. Agent Orange (2020)
Community Discussion: Colonial legacies, imperialism, military capitalism, violent extraction, war, and climate justice
