Your dog’s back said, “I need a spa day.” 💅🐶✨

@vetiquechicago , I may bring out the needles + electricity ⚡️🪡 for electroacupuncture…but there are things YOU can do at home between treatments too. 👏🏼

Meet two of my favorite little back + hip besties: BL-39 + BL-40. 💕🐾

📍 Both live around the crease behind the knee.
✨ BL-40: toward the center of the popliteal crease
✨ BL-39: just lateral/outside of BL-40

In Traditional Chinese Veterinary Medicine, these points are commonly used as part of treatment plans for caudal back/hip discomfort, hindlimb issues and muscle tension, with urinary concerns such as dribbling/incontinence also among their traditional indications.

And the best part? You don’t need acupuncture needles at home. 🙌🏼

Use your fingers to gently massage/acupress the area for approximately 30–60 seconds on each side, as tolerated. You can incorporate it into your pup’s and kitties daily cuddle/massage routine. 💆‍♀️🐶

Especially for my long-backed little 🌭 babies, senior kiddos, arthritic fur babies, and patients dealing with back or hip issues — supportive integrative care can be a beautiful addition to their overall treatment plan. 💕🩺

Acupuncture @vetiquechicago + acupressure at home = TEAMWORK, BABY. ⚡️🤝🐾

Acupressure is supportive care and isn’t a replacement for veterinary evaluation or treatment…especially with new back pain, weakness, inability to walk, or urinary changes.

Save this one for your pets next massage session. 📌💕

🚩 RED FLAG FRIDAY

Your pet’s biggest survival skill?

Hiding pain.

Dogs and cats rarely wake up one morning and suddenly become sick.

More often…

🐾 They jump a little less.
🐾 Sleep a little more.
🐾 Slow down on walks.
🐾 Hesitate before stairs.
🐾 Eat… but not with the same enthusiasm.

These aren’t always “just getting older.”

They’re clues.

✨ The earlier we recognize those whispers, the more opportunities we have to help.

❤️ Dr. Trice Truth:
Don’t wait for the bark… listen to the whisper.

✨ Meet Dr. Ken Schwartz! ✨

While Dr. Remnes is away enjoying maternity leave, we’re excited to welcome Dr. Schwartz to the Vetique team as one of our relief veterinarians! 🥼

Originally from New Jersey, Dr. Schwartz earned his veterinary degree from the University of Pennsylvania School of Veterinary Medicine and has called Chicago home since 2011. His dream of becoming a veterinarian started at just 3 years old after receiving a Fisher-Price veterinary kit — a passion that’s clearly been with him ever since. 🩺

One of his favorite things about veterinary medicine is the variety. From healthy puppy and kitten visits to surgery and more complex medical cases, he enjoys that every day brings something different.

At home, Dr. Schwartz has Lola, his scruffy rescue pup, and Robbie, his long-haired black cat. When he’s not caring for patients, you’ll likely find him playing tennis, reading, cooking, trying new restaurants, traveling, or relaxing with Lola.

📺 Fun fact: Dr. Schwartz was featured on Miami Animal Police on Animal Planet! Swipe to check out a few throwback photos. 👀

Your pets will be in wonderful hands with Dr. Schwartz, and we can’t wait for you to meet him! 🐶🐱 taken in Chicago's Gold Coast by @liveaurelien

Vomiting? 🤢 Diarrhea? 💩 Tummy being EXTRA dramatic? 🎭

Meet ST-36 aka Stomach 36… and baby, she’s kind of a big deal. 💅🏾✨

ST-36 is traditionally considered a Master Point for the GI tract + abdomen and is one of my FAVORITE acupuncture/acupressure points for supporting pets with tummy troubles. 🐾

Think:
🤢 Nausea
💩 Diarrhea
🤮 Vomiting
🍽️ Decreased appetite
🫃🏾 GI + abdominal discomfort

📍 How do you find it?
Find the kneecap ➡️ feel your landmarks ➡️ move just below the knee toward the tibial crest ➡️ find that little muscular depression.

BOOM. 💥 Hello, ST-36.‼️

👍Apply gentle, steady pressure
🌀 Or use small circular massage motions
⏱️ About 30–60 seconds
🐾 And don’t forget BOTH hind legs..we don’t play favorites around here. 😂

Big dog? Little dog? Tiny chicken legs? Extra fluffy? ST-36 said SIZE DOESN’T MATTER. 😂🐾

🚨 Now for my veterinarian disclaimer: Acupressure is supportive care—not a cure and not a replacement for diagnostics or veterinary treatment. Especially with persistent vomiting, diarrhea, blood, pain, lethargy, or changes in appetite, your pet needs to be evaluated by a veterinarian. 🩺

BUT for those acute tummy-trouble moments? ST-36 can be a beautiful supportive tool to have in your pet-parent toolbox. 🧰✨

Save this one. 📌
Your dog’s dramatic little GI tract may thank you later. 😂🤢💩

✨ One tiny point…

One BIG impact.

Meet Kidney 1 (KID-1)—one of my favorite acupressure points in Traditional Chinese Veterinary Medicine.

I recommend this point most often for pets needing extra support with:

💦 Urinary incontinence

But that’s not all…

It may also be helpful for:

✔️ Lower back discomfort

✔️ Arthritis & mobility

✔️ Hind limb weakness

📍You’ll find it on the INSIDE of the BACK leg, underneath the central pad of the back paw.

Massage gently with your thumb toward the metatarsal pad for about 1–2 minutes once daily.

🐾 Both hind legs are ideal.

🐾 One side is absolutely okay if that’s all your pet tolerates.

💥If you hit both KID-1 and KID-3 (see previous reel), these are powerful points for supporting Kidney disease.

Remember…

This is acupressure, not acupuncture.

It’s something many pet parents can safely perform at home after learning proper technique from their veterinarian. It should always be used alongside (not instead of) your veterinarian’s medical treatment plan.

Save this reel so you’ll always know where KID-1 is! ❤️

✨ Acupressure Point Spotlight: Shen Gen (“Spirit Root”) ✨

Got a dog or cat who’s suddenly acting like their favorite meal is beneath them? Shen Gen is an acupressure point located on the bridge of the nose that is traditionally used to help encourage appetite and interest in food.

🐾 Great for picky eaters
🐾 Helpful during recovery or stress-related appetite changes
🐾 Easy and gentle to perform at home

⚠️ Important reminder: If your pet has a decreased appetite, vomiting, diarrhea, weight loss, lethargy, or has gone more than 24 hours without eating, don’t assume they’re just being picky. Always rule out an underlying medical condition with your veterinarian first.

Because sometimes they’re picky…
And sometimes they’re trying to tell us something. ❤️

🦵✨ Your dog’s knee has two tiny acupuncture points that can make a BIG difference in comfort. 🙌

Meet ST35A & ST35B — also known as the “Eyes of the Knee.” 👁️🐾

These points sit on either side of the patellar ligament, just below the kneecap.

They are commonly used in veterinary acupuncture to help support pets dealing with:

🐾 Osteoarthritis
🐾 Luxating patellas
🐾 Ligament injuries
🐾 Joint swelling
🐾 General knee discomfort

Using the tip of your thumb and index finger, gently massage the little “eye” of the knee with soft circular motions for about 30–60 seconds. 💆‍♀️✨

Think gentle pressure—not a deep tissue massage. 😉

Always watch your pup’s body language. If they lean in, relax, or give you those “don’t stop, hooman” eyes, you’re probably in a happy spot. 🥹💕

If your dog seems uncomfortable or pulls away, simply stop and check in with your veterinarian.

A little TLC + a little acupressure = one pampered pup. 🐶
And before anyone asks 😉👇

This does NOT replace veterinary care, pain medications, rehabilitation, surgery recommendations, or treatments prescribed by your veterinarian.

Your dog may not know it’s called ST35…

But they definitely know it feels good. 🥹🐶

💾 SAVE this for later.
🐾 Follow for more veterinarian-approved acupuncture tips you can do at home.

Seeing this happy, tail-wagging guy walk in one week post emergency foreign body surgery completely voids the exhaustion of this profession. I would do it all over for you Louie, again and again. 🥹

📣 The special hoomans not given nearly enough credit are working tirelessly BTS. Sure, I have the skill set for the surgical procedure, but the support staff — you guys are truly the real MVPs.

From the client concierge that recognizes an emergency and quickly books the same day appointment.

To the veterinary technicians that triage the case, promptly arrange the diagnostics and administer all of the supportive care with an extra side of TLC.

To the PMs + nurses that scrub in and serve as irl stay sutures to hold the stomach of a deep chested dog just to speed up your procedure and reduce anesthesia time.

To the surgery technicians that keep your patients alive, spend hours in recovery by their sides and often leave the building after you on a 13+ hour day.

It takes a village, and I couldn’t be me without you. 🫶🏽✨ taken in Chicago's Gold Coast by @liveaurelien
