Things I won’t apologize for as a vegan:

1) not pretending like using animals is acceptable
2) making you uncomfortable by speaking out against animal exploitation - you’re not the victim
3) distancing myself from nonvegans - if you don’t
respect the lives of sentient beings, I can’t respect you
4) correcting you when you refer to animals as “it” -language is important and they’re not objects
5) preferring the company of nonhuman animals over humans - our world would be better if we were more like them
6) naming how unspecial, inherently selfish and destructive our species is - first step towards change is awareness
7) respecting every creature’s life and experience, no matter their size
8) treating animal exploitation as the moral atrocity it is and with the urgency it deserves
9) my anger - if you’re not angry, you’re detached from the scale and severity of this injustice
10) advocating for animals the way you or I’d expect if we were in their position

Oppressors always want those who speak out to remain silent.

Never has there been an injustice that is so severe, so massive and so hidden in plain sight. While most people condemn human rights violations and can look back throughout history and recognize an atrocity for what it is, 98% of the population still normalizes the objectification, exploitation, enslavement, torture and killing of TRILLIONS of individuals every single year. Nonhuman animals are so oppressed that they’re not even recognized as victims even though their victimization is a result of the very same supremacist and discriminatory mindset responsible for human oppression.

WAKE UP. This is not about what you eat. This is about WHO you oppress.

The supremacist belief that some lives matter less, that humans are entitled to control, use and take from other animals + nature is the root of all evil and leading to the annihilation of our planet and all of the living beings on it… wake up.

happy world vegan day to everyone who refuses to look away, everyone who recognizes this injustice and refuses to disrespect and exploit these innocent, defenseless beings, to everyone who refuses to stop speaking up in a world that normalizes such extreme violence and subjugation for personal interest….

and to everyone else - it’s never too late to get on the right side of history. It’s never too late to stop perpetuating this atrocity. It’s never too late to be who you say you actually are.

I hear it all the time: “how dare you compare animal oppression to human oppression!”, “there’s children dying!” “there are more important problems in the world,” “we need to solve human problems first”…

This reflects the root problem: viewing some lives as less important than others and having such little respect for other animals where it’s offensive to even consider offering them the same basic moral consideration of living free from oppression.

Why are we treating basic respect, liberation and justice as if these concepts can only extend so far?

We don’t all have to be the same to have the right to live free - isn’t that the whole damn point? Let’s live consistently and stop tormenting the world’s most vulnerable beings. This means live vegan.

It’s easy when you’re not the victim isn’t it?... Their only crime = being born into a non human body. Genuinely, how dare you continue to use and oppress them?

Believing someone else’s body and life belongs to you is a pretty fcked mentality - correct it by living vegan now.

#vegan #animalrights #animal #veganism #justice by @vgn.anna

Basic respect and the ability to empathize with those born into different bodies than mine- that’s what “radicalized” and lead me to aligning my actions with my values (being against oppression and exploitation) by living vegan.

Before you get triggered and start trying to justify why forcibly impregnating animals isn’t rape, that is exactly what rape culture does: dismiss individuals as unrapeable…”she’s his wife,” “she was drunk,” “she’s just a slave,” “she’s not a human”…

Married women used to be considered property therefore it was impossible for a woman to be raped by her husband. Human slaves were also considered property therefore unrapeable. And today we continue to regard nonhuman animals as property, therefore unrapeable.

Rape defined: forcibly, coercively, non consensually penetrating someone’s genitals.

Rape is rape regardless of the “reason” for it or who the victim is.

In the words of @clementinemorrigan:

No one is property. They are just treated as such.

No one is unrapeable. They are just treated as such.

We’re all the same in all the ways that matter.

What our species does to the most sensitive, defenseless innocent beings in the world is unforgivable - go vegan, it’s a moral obligation and the very least we can do.

If you think anything less than veganism is progress or acceptable, you’re not really considering your victims.

Is it preferable if 1 animal is exploited vs 5? Sure, but that’s not the position the majority of us are in, majority of us are in the position to not exploit any animals. The life of that one animal still matters and thats what veganism recognizes, that all animals, human and nonhuman, are individuals whose lives and experiences have inherent value and are worthy of respect.

I realize that people are going to go about their business and take a harm reduction approach anyways but I’m not here to applaud that - I’m here to speak up for the victims the way I’d expect if I were in their position.

#vegan #veganism #justice #animal #liberation by @vgn.anna

Yeah there’s no justification - just stop and do the right thing by offering other animals BASIC respect.
