I was told I can’t enter “Retailer of the Year” because I don’t have a showroom.

And while I get it
it actually sums up exactly how I work.

I come to you, see how you actually live in your home, and design a kitchen around that - not just what looks good on paper.

Showrooms can be overwhelming with the amount of choice. By understanding what you need from the start, I can narrow things down and make the whole process feel much simpler.

Fewer decisions. Less stress.

It’s one of those little things you might not think about when planning a kitchen, but you’ll appreciate it every day.

Soft-close cupboards and drawers. No banging, no slamming. Just the little details that make a kitchen work better.

Because it’s not just about making a kitchen look beautiful. It needs to work beautifully too. 😉 taken in Bath, United Kingdom by @vicky_elmore_kitchens

I spent the day at @cosentinouk in Gloucester yesterday with @bath_interiors_collective, and it reminded me that choosing a worktop isn't just about finding a colour you like.

There's a lot more going on behind that slab than you might think.

Different materials, clever manufacturing technology, lower-silica surfaces and designs that can carry right across your kitchen.

It's important to know how homeowners use their kitchen, what matters to them and what they need it to cope with.

If you are thinking of purchasing a Silestone, Dekton or Sensa worktop for your kitchen (or any other room) I would highly recommend visiting! taken in Gloucestershire by @vicky_elmore_kitchens

Bake Off’s on tonight. 🍰

While you’re watching the bakes, have a look at how much worktop space those bakers have.

Room to spread out, line everything up and actually get on with the job without moving five things out of the way first.

Now, I can’t promise you’ll be producing a showstopper every week, but having enough prep space makes everyday cooking a whole lot easier.

It’s one of the things I think about when designing every kitchen. Because a kitchen needs to work just as well on a Tuesday evening as it does on Bake Off. 😉 taken in Bath, United Kingdom by @vicky_elmore_kitchens

There's a reason I don't have drainage grooves in my own worktop...

Someone told me recently they regretted theirs, and honestly, I wasn't surprised. It's something I've always been aware of. The water tends to sit in the grooves rather than draining away, so you end up wiping them out anyway.

That's not to say they're a bad choice. Plenty of people have them and like the look, and they can add a bit of character. They're just more decorative than functional.

Quartz is popular for a reason.

It gives you the look of stone without some of the maintenance that comes with natural stone, and for a busy family kitchen, that can make life a lot easier.

But no worktop is completely bulletproof. Quartz still needs a bit of common sense, particularly around very high heat.

It’s not always the cheapest option, but if you want something that looks good and stands up to everyday life, it’s one I’m very happy to recommend. taken in Bristol, United Kingdom by @vicky_elmore_kitchens

Scandi or Shaker? My client couldn't decide, and after a few trips round the high street retailers she was more confused than ever.

The answer was a bit of both. Shaker doors with brass handles, warm oak shelving, and a waterfall peninsula that brings the whole space together. Plus a brand new utility.

That's what working with a designer gives you. Someone who listens and helps you work out what you actually want. taken in Edington, Wiltshire, United Kingdom by @vicky_elmore_kitchens

A kitchen is a big purchase. So yes, you should absolutely compare prices.

But please don’t compare the price of the cupboards and assume that’s the whole story.

Who is going to measure it?

Who is going to spot the problem with the window before the cupboards arrive?

Who is checking the design actually works?

Who is sorting out the changes?

Who are you calling when something doesn’t go to plan?

And who is making sure all the different bits of your renovation actually come together?

That’s the bit you don’t always see on a quotation.

For me, that’s where the value is.

I’m not interested in selling you a kitchen and waving you goodbye.

I want to know how you live, what matters to you and how we can make the whole process as straightforward as possible.

The kitchen matters.

But so does everything that gets you there. ❀ by @vicky_elmore_kitchens
