I’m still buzzing from my experience taking the stage at DisruptHR Ottawa.

The title of my talk was:

“Can’t Find Great People? Maybe You’re Not Worthy of Them.”

The format was 20 slides, 15 seconds each, 5 minutes total. The slides keep moving whether you’re ready or not.

It was amazing.

And also one of the hardest talks I’ve ever delivered…even though it was only mins!

Staying almost perfectly scripted was the biggest challenge for me.

I love to read the room and follow the energy, and there was NO room for that…in fact the lights were so bright I couldn’t even see the crowd.

I talked about the hidden patterns that show up under pressure and how as a leader, it’s not what we say. It’s everything about what we do.

I closed the talk out with one final message to the audience….

If you can’t find great workers, stop asking where all the great workers are and start asking if you’re showing up as a leader worthy of them.

I know as a leader that can be difficult to hear.

But afterward, so many people came up just to thank me and I was incredibly touched that my message resonated.

Not everyone will connect with this, and it takes a certain level of humility to look within and ask how am I contributing to the problem, but if you ever want the ability to unlock the potential of your team, you need to learn how to start with yourself first❤️

This is the work I do. Send me a DM if you’d like to learn more. taken in Ottawa, Ontario by @victoriacluney

I’m officially retired from the CAF ⚓️🇨🇦🫡

Thats a wrap.

Hard to sum up the past 24+ years of my life into a single post, so I won’t even try.

There are a lot of emotions to process and I’m holding space for both grief and excitement.

I am so grateful for the experiences and training the military gave me. It has shaped me into the strong, confident and capable leader I am today.

The military is a whole identity that doesn’t just go away because you take the uniform off. It will forever be a part of who I am.

My career did not come without its challenges 💔(understatement of the century) and while I’ve seen a lot of progress over the years, there is still so much work that needs to be done.

I’m honouring what this chapter gave me, letting go of what it cost me and keeping the lessons ❤️

To all the amazing people I’ve crossed paths with along the way, thank you for your friendship, guidance and the memories (omg the memories )🙏

To my incredible husband and son who uprooted their lives again and again, and sacrificed so much to support my career, I’m forever grateful 🫶 You are my ride or die’s.

This next phase of my life reflects a level of freedom I’ve never experienced before…the freedom to choose what I do, when I do it and where I do it and I can’t freaking wait!!! taken in Ottawa, Ontario by @victoriacluney

It takes humility to let someone come in, look closely at how things are being done, and help identify what could work better.

But that’s how you start building a business that better supports both its people and its growth. by @victoriacluney

The Vision Room brought together leaders from all different backgrounds, from people just starting out in business to those leading billion-dollar companies.

We talked about building fierce loyalty, recognizing the patterns that hold us back, and setting a vision for what comes next.

You can keep building on a cracked foundation until things start to break. That’s when you need to step back, figure out what isn’t working, and make a change. by @victoriacluney

For 3 years I’ve struggled with “who I am” in the entrepreneur space and have tried on a lot of hats.

I found entrepreneurship through real estate investing and that has been a big part of my identity. And then I moved into business and found my place as a coach…but I never liked being called a “business coach”. I felt like what I did (and was capable of doing) was so much more.

After seeking for the answer inside different mentorship communities and coaches of my own, i finally learned to let go of trying to force anything and listen to my intuition.

Almost instantly the answer appeared and if you’ve seen a shift in my content now you know why…

The best part is that it has opened up so many new opportunities and connections I’m excited to explore but more importantly enhanced what i offer the clients i already serve.

If you’ve read this far and know you have so much more to give but feel like something is missing in your life I hope this can help spark a little inspo to stop settling.

I will be hosting another vision room, sharing exactly the work I needed to get here.

The next one will be a full day. Comment “WAIT” if you want details when they drop.

For the first time in my life I feel like I’m on the right path. by @victoriacluney

One of the challenges with micromanaging is not being able to accept mistakes.

When you need everything to go right, it can be hard to trust that you’ll be able to handle it when things go wrong.

There’s a difference between micromanaging and stepping in when your team needs you.

Micromanaging often comes from needing certainty and feeling like you’re the only one who can get things done.

But if you want your team to become more capable, you have to start stepping back.

When a business grows quickly, it can outgrow the systems that got it there.

I’m spending time inside @johnsonconstruction.613 observing how the business runs day to day, how the team communicates, and where we can streamline the admin and back-end operations.

The goal is to build better systems, create more structure, and make room for the team to keep growing without everything feeling so heavy. by @victoriacluney

Leaders set the standard, but all too often, circumstances pop up that cause those standards to bend, get pushed aside, or become less of a priority.

Business definitely requires flexibility. The goal isn't to be so rigid that you can't adapt to the natural ebbs and flows.

But understand this...every time you let a standard slip, you're showing your team what is actually acceptable.

And once you allow it, the exception becomes the new standard.

You don't need to fight every battle, but you do need to choose them wisely.

Because your team is always watching, and what you tolerate teaches them far more than what you say. by @victoriacluney
