Huge congratulations to @johntlapa on his Best Practical Effects nomination at @vancouverhorrorshow! 🏆🪰

John designed, printed, and hand painted 3 different versions of our fly, creating a truly unique and emotive character.

And a huge congrats to @vielis.design, the other crucial half of our practical effects team. She created body parts, giant bars of soap, take-out pasta, and so much more!

We can’t say enough about John, Vielis, and the rest of the art team who brought this film to life. This one was such a blast to make, and we’re so proud to be a team that keeps creating with practical effects!

the amount of 8.5x11 papers taped together for this one was astronomical, but so glad to have been part of this and bring @genpugdesign drawings to life! love having a creative outlet and being pushed to think outside the box. everyone on this set killed it!!!!!

Aaand that’s a wrap on 2025🎬

in 2024 I quit my full time job to put my all into Production Designing- something that I knew wouldn’t be easy, but felt necessary. I’m incredibly grateful for every project I worked on this year, whether it was PA’ing, set dressing, prop styling or production designing. Each opportunity introduced me to such amazing people and unforgettable experiences.

On a more PG note, let’s talk about THE dinner scene. I’m still obsessed with how this shot turned out—massive credit to our insanely talented DP (@trevorpeckham ). Building a lived-in, slightly unhinged dinner table was nerve-wracking, but getting to tear it all apart afterward was so so fun. I absolutely love how this gory moment came together. Most of the dishes were destined to be shattered, so they were rescued from local thrift shops, and the rest of the table settings were a patchwork of whatever the crew was willing to sacrifice from their own kitchens.

In honor of The EP making its debut next month, here’s some prop-making/styling BTS from MurderBird🐦‍⬛

Working on this film was honestly a blast. I got to meet amazing creatives and filmmakers, and see the movie screenings at FrightFest UK, Telluride Horror Show, and the Bushwick Film Festival. The props for this film demanded that I think way outside the box on a very limited budget—and I’m forever thankful to the IWNF team (@itsworthnothingforever ) for trusting me to get weird with it.

Both major props had one thing in common: they required a field trip to a sex shop. For the bird penis, I started with the base of a strap-on, then went full arts-and-crafts mode. With an old t-shirt, a can of gorilla glue spray, clay, paint, and an unreasonable amount of goo, we Frankensteined together the skeleton of this avian phallus and attached it to the strap base our star bird would be wearing.

And then there was the human butthole. That one required a faux butt, an old pair of jeans, and a heroic assist from the makeup department (@jpbeautynyc ). Truly a collaboration for the ages
