Still trying to process this one. 🇵🇭

We grew up listening to The Black Eyed Peas and Bebot. It’s one of those songs that has always felt bigger than just a song. It was Filipino pride, culture and identity being celebrated loudly and unapologetically on a global stage.

Years later, Kalamansi Collective created a special edition Bebot shirt with Apl.de.Ap, @weareaplfi and @seafoodcitycanada .

We’ve worked hard to build Kalamansi Collective, to tell our stories our way, and to create something that makes people take notice of Filipino culture. Moments like this remind us why we started.

The shirt celebrates the words and moments that made Bebot feel like ours, from “Yung kanin, chicken adobo” to the iconic “Filipino, Filipino, Filipino, Filipino.” The brownish-purple colourway is a nod to the line “Pero masaya parin ang kulay” and the celebration of Filipino identity at the heart of the song.

As a Filipino-Canadian brand built on carrying our culture forward, getting to create alongside someone whose music helped put Filipino culture on the global stage is a full-circle moment we will never forget.

From listening to Bebot on repeat to creating a Bebot shirt with Apl.de.Ap.

We dreamed of moments like this. And we’re just getting started. 🇵🇭

A personal thank you to @apldeap, @ianoianoiano and @msgvjopanda for believing in what we’re building and for bringing us into such a special moment.

This one will stay with us for a long time. 💚

About last Tuesday night!

Kalamansi Collective hosted our fifth edition of Kalamansi Chats, a panel conversation discussing owning the narrative and how Filipinos are redefining storytelling. ✍️

We were honoured to have @glamzilla @ifyouseekay._._ @michaelangelomcfly and @jackieperezofficial as panelist as we took over Toronto City Hall for the very first time! This was our largest venue yet!

Many thanks to @tomastan71 and @pidc_to for supporting our annual initiative and having us kick off @mabuhay_to festivities!

Also, a special thanks to Toronto Mayor @oliviachow for her opening remarks and presenting Kalamansi Collective with an honourary scroll on behalf of the Mayor and City Council. 📜

That night we learned that we shouldn’t have to be told how we show off our culture and that we should embrace our heritage and be proud of the skin we’re in! 🇵🇭

Plot twist of the century 🌪️

If you knew me in high school, you know how much I disliked the Portugal national team.

So naturally, I somehow ended up at the pre-match Portugal march and watching Portugal play at the FIFA World Cup in person.

For my first ever World Cup match, I got to watch Cristiano Ronaldo play. Not exactly how I pictured my World Cup debut... but I’ll take it. 😂

It was also great seeing @melissagrelo and @phil.perkins.news at the march. We had to rep some Asians!

And of course, I had to represent the Philippine National Team. After all, the Philippines and Portugal have the exact same number of FIFA World Cup trophies. 😉🇵🇭

Huge thanks to @hayleyjchan for making this happen. Definitely one for the memory bank. taken in Toronto, Ontario by @viewsfromkris

As we come to the end of Filipino Heritage Month in Canada, we are featuring one of Toronto’s finest Filipino restaurants @mineraltoronto with Chef Danny Cancino!

Mineral Toronto is a changing the game when it comes to elevating Filipino cuisine, feeding the likes of Sandra Oh, Kevin O’Leary and many others! Nothing truly beats their truffle ensaymada. That butter is to die for! 🤤🤤🤤

Although Filipino Heritage Month is coming to an end, our commitment to supporting local Filipino businesses doesn’t stop here.

Because of the incredible response and your overwhelming support, we’re excited to announce that we’ll continue featuring local Filipino businesses throughout the year. This is just the beginning. 🇵🇭

Still reflecting on this conversation from last week.

Honoured to work with Nestlé Canada on an Asian Heritage Month panel focused on storytelling, representation, and how our roots shape the way we move through our careers and lives.

Huge thank you to @stephkchow, @chantelle.karen.mendonca, and @melissachangg for making this happen alongside @kalamansi.collective, and to @jeanetteeeeeeeliu Joanna from @yuehtungrestaurant , @supendra, and @davecorpin for such an inspiring conversation.

More spaces like this. More stories like these. 🤝 taken in Nestle Canada Inc. by @viewsfromkris
