This is one to not scroll past. Take a couple of minutes to listen to this incredible poem by @vigspoetry

Male s3xual vi0lence is rarely, if ever discussed as an experience.

The silence around male vulnerability runs so deep that most survivors never find the words to acknowledge what happened.

Vig has found those words. This is for ever male survivor who has never been given the language, space, or permission to say what happened.

We hear you 🧡

Yes.. I’ve posted this poem a third time.. 🪄yes it’s even more meditative and magical - let the music carry you away to Bangalore.. 🌴

What an experience @sofarlondon 🌟- thanks Ollie, Harri, @qdundat_ @prempeh556 tanashachege @_charlottenatalie_ for the support ❤️

I’m looking to create an audio project centred around the concept of ‘Home?’ - bringing a South Asian ‘soundscape’ to life through poetry.. hmu if this sounds interesting to you 💡

Just completed @shirelandca Summer School Workshops where we did fun memory activities, made poems about our future selves and also our spirit animals! Was such a lovely time getting to know all the children🙏🏾☀️

giving back and nurturing the next generation to be creative and enjoy reading, writing and creative performance is IMPERATIVE.

Fellow creatives - GO BACK TO YOUR LOCAL SCHOOLS! You will change lives, bring smiles and maybe even inspire career paths.. have a think :)

Perspectives:
1: Police Officer

Muhammad Idrish, must stay
Rings, in my right ear
Maybe I’m - on the wrong side
A path , adjacent to truth
My uniform, an estuary
Cajouling, cacophonies
Steering, sound towards
a river, of liberation

Deportation, no way
Muhammad idrish, must stay

2: Megaphone Man
Muhammad Idrish, must stay
Strains our throat
our Adam’s apple of freedom
Holding murmurs of Muhammad’s shoal
I wonder if they are listening
Thatcher and the pigs
I see one walking
four steps ahead
Sweating under the weight
of a badge too big
for a human heart..

I wonder
when he is stripped
of navy blue
If he sees colour
The same as us?

8 October 1983.
Muhammad Idrish is a Bangladeshi man from Faridpur studying at Bristol Polytechnic after doing Physics at Dhaka University. His legacy lives on through us all. His Trade Union NALGO fights for three whole years - we are a choir of multicultural conformity. You must listen. Survival is our song. Featuring Claire Short.

In light of South Asian Heritage Month in the UK, I have decided to share more of my response via the Birmingham Media Archive Project, focusing on the threads that tie people together in times of crisis. The work connects stories of resilience and resistance in the face of racism in Birmingham.

The stories I respond to include those of Muhammad Idrish, a NALGO member whose union helped fight his threat of deportation, as well as many other South Asian and Afro-Caribbean communities who were supported through the West Midlands Anti-Deportation Campaign.

The hope is to highlight themes of unity, connection and a fight for positive change; to foreground the inspiration felt as a young South Indian man of Global Ethnic majority, seeing the shared struggles previous generations have experienced and fought through. I hope we all see different perspectives through the film and think about how we can learn from the past.

@vigspoetry A familiar face, voice and penmanship 💫✨️

Some of us have even been able to share moments of our lives with Vigs in exchange for poetry that moves with honesty and emotional clarity, offering language for the days we often feel but rarely articulate.

We are honoured to have him share that depth, heritage, and unmistakable presence with us this month

~ Come Round🖤

my version of Lena Oleanderson’s “We Have Enough Dead Friends”

I cannot put into words how much this poem means to me. Or how seen it makes me feel, deeper than anything else I’ve ever really encountered.. Words have this magical way of finding themselves creeping into my mind, body, heart and soul.

Life can be shitty. And gruelling. And hard. I’ve lost too many friends. So I will do everything in my power to keep them here.
