BIPOC BEADING CIRCLE hosted by the talented visionary, @vihoussin 🌷every 4th Thursday of the month!

QTBIPOC of all experience levels are welcome. Bring your own beading project, or learn a traditional two-needle stitch!

Vi Houssin (she/her) is a beadwork artist and drag performer. Her family is of white settler and Red River Métis ancestry. Her Métis family names are Ritchot, Poitras, Larence and Plante, and her ancestors held script in St. Vital and St. Boniface. She is a proud member of the Two-Spirit Michif Local and a citizen of the Manitoba Métis Federation. Vi works and lives in Winnipeg, Canada on Treaty 1 Territory where she was born and raised.

my first solo exhibition, landfear, has ended 🌙 i worked very hard on this show, and i am very proud of it. kischii maarsii to everyone who took the time to visit these works and shared thoughts and emotions and encouragement. it was a real honour to share this with you.

tobacco bag gifts for three wonderful folks without whom landfear wouldn’t exist 🌹 size 11 & 15 seed beads on melton lined with red satin & braided embroidery string cords & tassels!

one for @jules__nindizhinikaaz, the curator, who believed in this project since day 1 and condensed its spirit into such beautiful words!

one for @then0t0ri0usbre, ED of @aceartinc, who was so accommodating, patient, thoughtful & careful throughout the entire process!

and one for michael miteku, our assistant curator, who swooped in at the eleventh hour and brought everything together. the show simply wouldn’t be completed without him.

my dead my seed, 2025. glass seed beads, cotton thread on home-tanned salmon skin leather. 16x20 inches.

inspired by the wonderful poem “not just a platform for my dance” by marilyn dumont (slide 5)

shoutouts to my fave local sushi shop that shall remain nameless for selflessly breaching food safety regulations by selling me their skins, and @ralph_bryant for letting me process em in his backyard. ik the neighbourhood cats were eating good that night 🐟
