The warmup… taken in Marrakech, Morocco by @vikassapra

Got this message at 2:57am last night from a client.

30 years programming rooms like Rose Bar, Electric Room, and Hiro.

He cut the DJ at 2am. Forty five minutes later, nobody could tell.

That gap used to cost operators. We just finally filled it. by @vikassapra

Most venues treat the early hours like a warmup. Something to fill space until the room gets going.

We don't see it that way.

@peoplesny is a space that asks you to pay attention - the art, the room, the details. The music should do the same. Not aggressive about it. Just enough to reward the people who are actually present.

We opened on Kate Bush, Suicide, Gloria Ann Taylor. We then transition into Moroder and OMD.

Raina programs the room before the DJ shows up.

I happened to be both that night.

Music at Alba isn’t a playlist - it’s part of how the room works.

From early arrivals to late-night energy, the sound evolves with the space: welcoming without being sleepy, social without being overwhelming, elevated without ever feeling forced.

When music is programmed intentionally, it supports service flow, guest pacing, and staff energy - all while reinforcing the identity of the room.

These tracks are part of how Alba creates consistency, momentum, and mood - night after night.

Thoughtful sound design is one of the most underrated operational tools in hospitality.

@vikassapra is an architect of celebration — someone who understands the rhythm, energy, and flow of a wedding on a masterful level.

Watching him guide the night at Andrew & Sabrina’s @ojaivalleyinn wedding was unreal. He’s truly one of the best in the game.

Bazaar Meat opened at the Ritz-Carlton NoMad, and José Andrés Group asked me to DJ the launch.
⁣
I spend my days building a company that curates the soundtracks for spaces like this…
and then I get to step into the room myself and feel the energy shift in real time.
⁣
I love that I get to live in both worlds:
crafting the soundtrack from afar,
and then stepping into the space and feeling its pulse first-hand.
⁣
Nights like this remind me that the work isn’t just work.
It’s connection.
It’s presence.
It’s paying attention.

I’ve always believed the best music curation happens when the space itself sets the bar high. And @nubeluzbyjose does exactly that.

A rooftop 50 floors up, wrapped in glass, with views that make you stop mid-sentence — the kind of room where the music can’t just be good background. It has to elevate the entire experience.

That challenge is what makes projects like this meaningful. We pulled in sounds from Paris, São Paulo, and Cape Town — all chosen to match the sparkle of the space.

Grateful to @joseandresgroup and the Nubeluz team for trusting us to help write that soundtrack in the clouds. by @vikassapra

In 2007, I walked into @deathandcompany and it was one of those moments that sparked a lifelong obsession with hospitality — how sound, space, and service can combine to create magic.

Fast forward to today: I’m curating music for @closecompanybar, a new concept from the Death & Co family.

It’s playful, punchy, and made for good times — mini martinis, pizza pockets, disco edits, and all.

For me, this isn’t just another venue. It’s a full-circle moment. The bar that inspired my love for the industry is now part of the journey we’re building at Raina.

Major love to the team at @ginandluck for trusting us with the sound. This one already feels like a classic. by @vikassapra

Aspen, you were magic ✨

This wasn’t just another gig - it was the first time I’ve organized a 20-piece orchestra playing alongside me.

I got to dream up this arrangement with my friend and talented composer @warrenwillowmusic

It was equal parts insane and inspiring to see weeks of ideas turn into hours j of the most powerful performances I’ve ever been part of. by @vikassapra

For our founder @vikassapra, point-of-view is (almost) everything.

Before we dive into any curation, the first question we look to answer for a client is: ‘What’s your point of view?’ Are you traditional, a risk taker, or somewhere in between? Do you want your sound to align with your design, architecture, food, and overall aesthetic, or do you want to use contrast to create harmony?

With music curation, developing a strong point-of-view is your invitation to musical freedom — and essential for your guests to take in the unique storytelling at play.

For example: consider a metropolitan Japanese restaurant that chooses to play strictly hip-hop from New York in the 90’s. Cultivating a strong point-of-view by coloring outside the lines can offer unexpected delight to guests, and, at best, completely re-frame the traditional listening experience into something unique and new.

And for Vikas, that’s the whole point. by @vikassapra
