[Residency] Villa Formose Immersive 2026 ✨ Week 3 highlight reel : Red carpets, relics and rituals ✨

I am deeply grateful for the focused time to work on Mystis during my residence at Pier 2 Arts Center in Kaohsiung. It’s really amazing and incredibly rare to have such deeply focused time to immerse myself in the work. So much progress can be achieved when taken outside of daily life, whilst being inspired and challenged by an unfamiliar place. I can almost feel my neurons firing differently, in new ways which feed into the work. 🧠

I’m proud of the 5-minute piece I have developed while being here, and working remotely with @ruthmariner_ , @alina_less_ , @proj_production that I will present in a few days at the open studio during the Kaohsiung Film Festival.

Few of the highlights from the week include :

🎨 Being invited to the press conference with the Minister of Culture of Taiwan for the opening of TTXC

😎 Joining the opening ceremony of the Kaohsiung Film Festival and walking the red carpet - more on that soon

🕯️Participating in the blessing ceremony for TTXC - visiting temples around Kaohsiung to ask different deities for blessings, in the hope the event runs well

🥽 Watching the amazing selection of immersive work of XR dreamland and feasting on immersive art.

🪷 Visiting the Fo Guang Shan Buddha Museum, an incredible Buddhist monastery, and meditating in the room where the relic of Buddha’s tooth!

Lauréate Villa Formose Immersive 2026 ✨
🌟Taiwan XR Residency, single user : Tatiana Collet Apraxine, Mystis.
•
After a long journey, I’ve begun to settle into my residence in Kaohsiung, working on prototyping the first act of Mystis. ✨🕯️🌊
•
We were lucky enough to be invited to our host’s family celebration of the Mid-Autumn Festival (中秋節), also called the Moon Festival - a holiday marking the fall harvest and full moon, where the local Taiwanese custom is to barbecue with family and neighbours.
•
I researched a little more into the mythology around it. A famous myth is: Chang’e, a woman who drinks an elixir of immortality and floats up to the moon, becoming its resident goddess, separated forever from her husband on Earth.
•
Alongside building Mystis, I’ll be researching Taiwanese mythology, especially around death, ghosts, and loss, and rituals like the lantern festivals, all shaping the visual and thematic language of the piece.
•
I’ll leave you with this: 但願人長久，千里共嬋娟 - a classical line from an 11th-century poem by Su Shi, meaning roughly “I only wish we may both live long, sharing the moon’s beauty though a thousand miles apart.”
•

✈️ Paris ➜ Kaohsiung 🇹🇼

🇫🇷 On est bien arrivés ! Après un long voyage, Benoit Nguyen Tat, Mathias Deshayes et moi posons nos valises à Kaohsiung pour la résidence Villa Formose Immersive 2026.

Pendant plusieurs semaines, nous allons développer le premier chapitre de THE PARTY, notre expérience collective en réalité mixte, en nous immergeant dans la culture taïwanaise.

駐法國台灣文化中心、法國在台協會、巴黎 104 藝術中心、高雄市電影館及法國國家電影與動畫中心(CNC)共同宣布「福爾摩沙藝術駐村計畫-沉浸式內容」 2026 年三組獲選計畫：

🌟France XR Residency : @jamie_hsieh0409, “Hole Whole Hold”.
Hole Whole Hold est une installation en VR. Le titre résume l’œuvre en un seul son. HOLE : le judas, la caméra cachée. WHOLE : l’état d’être entièrement vu. HOLD : le pouvoir de conserver ou de libérer ce qui a été capturé.

謝潔明 — Hole Whole Hold
Hole Whole Hold 是一件 VR 裝置藝術作品。作品名稱以三個英文單字概括其核心概念：HOLE——窺視孔與隱藏攝影機；WHOLE——完全被看見的狀態；HOLD——保留或釋放被捕捉之物的力量。
