We'd all sighed over Becoming when @richajharj had opened the exhibition in Delhi. Finally it's here in Mumbai at the P.L. Deshpande Gallery in Prabhadevi and what an absolute treat. This is one magnificent celebration of art in Indian children's literature!
Walked into @deepabalsavar doing a session with her book! What fun that was to engage with a single spread of Nani's Walk in the Park and be agog with the million details she's included. (Dying to return and do that jigsaw puzzle on my own) Each giant artwork with its storytelling leaves you moved and in utter awe. It was lovely to find the works of so many friends. @kripa_illustrator @tanvibhat.draws missed walking around looking at the work through your eyes.

If you are a child, if you ever were a child, whether you like stories or not, this is a must-go show.
I'm definitely going again to look more closely at this.

@kahanitree @kitabonkesang how cool to see you both. by @vinithastories

I saw a picture of @vinithastories speaking at the @neevliteraturefestival recently and was filled with admiration. As if writing a book for young readers that speaks about taboo topics like periods and menopause (Uma Kapoor v/s The Universe published by @penguinsters ) isn't remarkable enough, Vinitha speaks to a classroom full of boys about these matters, deftly handling both doubt and discomfort.

Vinitha, you are a person I have much admired. For your writing and courage no doubt, but also for your graciousness and good heart. As it happens, you find a mention in the acknowledgements section of one of my books. Pictures of your recent session at Neev reminded me of meeting you there last year, and at other events and places and the happy times and conversations we've had.

For those looking for a book to begin a conversation with their teens (girls and boys) about menstruation and menopause, coming of age and all the sticky times the hormones take over, do get this book. It takes on the elephant in the room, but in a super breezy and humorous way.

Anyone who knows me, knows how much I look forward to heading to Neev. I love how, in one go, you get to immerse intensely with all parts that make the literature ecosystem: the books, the bookmakers, the believers, the magician art illustrators and writers and readers.

I'm terrible with presence of mind especially when I am in the midst of glorious company. I wish I had taken more pictures, just as I love that I was so happy that I forgot to, most of the time!

To all the lovely children, teachers, and amazing kidlit people I met for the first time, to all the friends and friends-like-family, to the growing kidlit community and everyone that I met at Neev, my salaam. Thank you @karthika.g and team @neev for, as always working so hard and making it look so effortless.

Sangeeta, Kripa, Deepa, you were not here, but you were here.

Imagine a session on menstruation and menopause. Imagine I'm doing it for children. Imagine this is my first, hands-on workshop with Uma Kapoor vs The Universe, that I get to test out.
I'm told that there are 23 registered participants and when I walk in, I'm sure the group of boys in there are from a previous session and will exit now. Imagine. They don't.

Out of 23 participants, all teenagers, 17 are boys. Imagine! I get to do my first session on menopause and menstruation with kids and, more importantly, with boys.

Cannot thank @neevliteraturefestival enough for the special place they've made with this school by making it a reading school. The boys, who had assumed my session was to do with intergalactic and lunar things, flinched briefly when I said "periods" which is exactly what I wanted because -- let's admit it -- we all don't like saying these words out aloud, still.

But, see the pics. Witness the fact that kids are ready to talk, listen and participate in conversations like menstruation, menopause and bodies.

Thank you Subia. You were cool and amazing. I hope to learn chemistry with you. by @vinithastories

How much power do women and girls have? Can we say no, when powerful people want us to be quiet? What does it feel like to be young? Can we think for ourselves? Can we ask questions? This and more at the Ramagondanahalli Government School, Whitefield with The Girl Who Wouldn't Stay Within the Lines.
What a treat this was, @neevliteraturefestival
Such a previlege to visit a school where reading and writing isn't taken for granted and the pleasure of having an author over, was celebrated. The kids, have been writing this whole year and each of them had created storybooks. I could have stayed there all day reading their work. So many of them had made cards for me. Will you read each one of our cards, they asked. I have. I carry them home with me.

We think adults have all the answers… until we become adults ourselves.

The truth is, most of us are simply figuring life out.
And while adults navigate their own struggles, children often silently absorb the tension, anxiety, anger and unspoken emotions around them.

In this powerful conversation, Vinitha @vinithastories reminds us to be kinder to grown-ups—and, more importantly, to become more mindful of what children may be silently carrying.

Because sometimes, children don’t need perfect parents.
They need emotionally aware ones.

An interview with @feminaindia on Uma Kapoor Vs The Universe, about menstruation, menopause, about the writing process and about what makes a book. #umakapoorvstheuniverse is the first children's book in India on menopause. Did you know that?

Have you bought the book?

Link of the interview in bio. Please buy the book from an indibookstore if possible. Do read, do get others to read. Do let me know what you think about the book. Book creators are always looking for love and encouragement.

@kamdar.shraddha thank you for reading the book and for the most interesting questions! Enjoyed doing this one.
