Viroid Creative: Azucarโ€™s Favourite Shop (@azucarsfavoriteshop), featured in โ€˜Viroid Magazine: Issue 01โ€™. #๐“ฅ๐“˜๐“ก๐“ž๐“˜๐““

Azucarโ€™s Favourite Shop is a dedicated A Bathing Ape collector, archivist, curator and seller based in Pennsylvania. With an impressively rare archive and collection, his multitude of NIGO-era BAPE pieces is a trip down memory lane. From @nerd & @pharrell promo tees to self-screen-printed tees by @nigo himself; Azucarโ€™s collection has a piece that will make any true Bapehead look twice.

The name Azucarโ€™s Favourite Shop is a spin on NIGOโ€™s Favourite Shop; the name of a monthly column NIGO wrote in BOON Magazine which featured personal picks and BAPE news. Azucar acquired his first @bape_japan piece at age 14 from the brandโ€™s New York store; with him avidly collecting NIGO-era vintage pieces ever since. One of his personal highlights of his collection is a signed copy of BAPE ARCHIVES by NIGO; a 2012 book which features a list of NIGOโ€™s favourite releases and spotlights 108 rare items. This rare release doubles as his roadmap for grails to chase.

Azucar serves to preserve the lengthy and colourful history of NIGOโ€™s creative vision, consistently scanning and archiving vintage Urahara magazines from his own collection. These magazines are rare blueprints and artifacts of streetwear before the internet took over the culture. He told Viroid he โ€œloves being able to preserve these eras, while connecting the dots between the clothing and their storiesโ€.

We interviewed Azucar, discussing the iconic background of A Bathing Ape, the grails from his collection, his process of scanning and archiving, and much more; featured in โ€˜Viroid Magazine: Issue 01โ€™. Viroid Creative: Al Diaz (@albert_diaz1), featured in โ€˜Viroid Magazine: Issue 01โ€™. #๐“ฅ๐“˜๐“ก๐“ž๐“˜๐““

Al Diaz, aka SAMOยฉโ€ฆ & BOMB-ONE, is a veteran graffiti writer, artist and pioneering lecturer based in New York City. Best known for collaborating with Jean-Michel Basquiat on the iconic avant-garde graffiti project SAMOยฉโ€ฆ, Al helped set the stage for an artistic revolution in the streets of 1970s Downtown New York; continuing to have an effect on todays art world. Diaz began tagging under the name BOMB-ONE in his early teens, with Al now witnessing nearly 45 years of the NYC art world.

Diaz and Basquiat met as teenagers at City-As-School High School in Manhattan in 1976, where they bonded over their shared interests and Puerto Rican heritage. They became friends after discovering common ground through their love of art, language, and struggles in school. After high school and the initial SAMOยฉโ€ฆ period, Diaz practiced percussion and created recordings, including a performance on Beat Bop - a legendary 1983 hip-hop single produced and designed by Jean-Michel Basquiat. This featured a rap battle between @therammellzee and @thatskrob, with Basquiat creating the iconic cover art for the release on his own Tartown Records label. Due to the rarity of the original pressing and Basquiat cover art, Beat Bop is amongst the most valuable hip-hop/rap records ever made.

Alโ€™s works have been shown and privately collected intemationally, including at @beyondthestreetsart, @urbanartfair, and @scopeartshow. Heโ€™s also done panel discussions regarding graffiti at @brooklynmuseum, @thenewschool, and @themuseumofmodernart. Additionally, a notebook he made with @basquiatofficial and friends is currently in the private collection of @yaleuniversity. Diaz is also the author of SAMOยฉโ€ฆ SINCE 1978, a recent autobiography of sorts to help illustrate and clarify SAMOยฉโ€ฆ writings found throughout the late โ€˜70s.

We chatted with Al for an exclusive interview, discussing his creative process, his lengthy journey, friendship with Jean-Michel Basquiat, and more; featured in โ€˜Viroid Magazine: Issue 01โ€™. Read the full issue now at the website in our bio (@vir0id). taken in 57 Great Jones Street by @vir0id

Viroid Creative: Hikki Vintage (@rannataraoaoa), featured in โ€˜Viroid Magazine: Issue 01โ€™. #๐“ฅ๐“˜๐“ก๐“ž๐“˜๐““

Hikki Vintage is recognised as the #1 vintage Nirvana t-shirt collector in the world. Based in Tokyo, Japan, heโ€™s been passionate about collecting vintage for over 20 years. Roughly a decade ago, he chose to dedicate himself exclusively to Nirvana memorabilia, amassing a collection of just under 200 rare and valuable Nirvana shirts. His extensive knowledge and access to his collection allows him to authenticate and compare shirts with ease, making him a true vintage Nirvana t-shirt authenticator.

Last year, Hikki made headlines in the vintage community after paying $8,500 for a single Nirvana t-shirt; a black Bleach era tee featuring a photo of the bandโ€™s three members. He also revealed that his entire collection has cost him over $70,000. Despite the pricing, Hikki showcases that his passion isnโ€™t driven by monetary value; rather, heโ€™s deeply devoted to Nirvana collecting. Heโ€™s dedicated himself to curating the most comprehensive archive of vintage Nirvana globally. Building such an extensive archive as Hikkiโ€™s is truly next-level, and his dedication has inspired many within the vintage community.

The rarity and cult appeal of vintage Nirvana t-shirts continues to grow, with many original tees from the bandโ€™s 1980s-90s tours being extremely scarce. This means theyโ€™re usually still owned by only a few original concert attendees or passionate collectors. As they become harder to find, collectors reach out to original owners, with some paying tens of thousands to acquire the rarest authentic pieces.

We spoke with Hikki about his unparalleled collection and love for Nirvana curation, featured in โ€˜Viroid Magazine: Issue 01โ€™. Read the full interview from the issue now at the website in our bio (@vir0id). taken in Kurt Cobain Memorial Bench by @vir0id
