8/2　2025　onomichi sumiyoshi fireworks festival
Every year, around 13,000 fireworks, both skyrockets and underwater, are launched into the Onomichi Strait, brilliantly lighting up the night sky over Onomichi, a Japan Heritage town.

Cafe "CO-GO" in Innoshima Island, Onomichi, Hiroshima

Originally a nursery school, the facility has been renovated and now operates as a café on weekends and public holidays only! The owner is also engaged in farming, so you can buy fresh vegetables there. Of course, the drinks like coffee are great, but the vegetable-loaded curry is a must-try! The café also offers a variety of sweets. The spacious interior provides a relaxed atmosphere, perfect for unwinding. Right in front of the café, you can enjoy the beautiful view of the Seto Inland Sea. Be sure to visit!

"Onomichi Betcha Festival"

The "Onomichi Betcha Festival" is a unique festival designated as a Folk Cultural Property of Onomichi City.
It is held annually on November 1st, 2nd, and 3rd. On the 3rd, parishioners wearing masks of "Beta," "Shoki," and "Soba," along with a lion, parade through the city center with a mikoshi (portable shrine).
They chase children, hitting their heads with a "sasara" or prodding their bodies with a "iwai-bō" (festive stick).
It is said that being hit with a "sasara" makes you smarter, being prodded with an "iwai-bō" brings fertility, and it promises a year of health and safety.

ベッチャー祭は、尾道市民俗文化財に指定されている奇祭で、毎年11月1日・2日・3日に行われ、
3日には「ベタ」、「ショーキ」、「ソバ」の面を付けた氏子たちと獅子が、神輿とともに市の中心街を練り歩き、子どもを見つけると追い回し、手にした「ささら」や「祝棒」で頭をたたいたり、体を突いたりします。
「ささら」でたたかれると頭が良くなり、「祝棒」で突かれると子宝に恵まれ、また1年間の無病息災が約束されると言われています。

"Onomichi Hanpu"

Canvas is a thick cotton fabric used for the sails of ships, such as Kitamaebune.
Transforming this canvas into everyday items such as bags is an attempt to revive the tradition of canvas, a symbol of Onomichi, which has flourished as a port town since ancient times.
Inside the workshop, each item is carefully made, and you can even see the craftsmen at work in the back.
The location is next to Onomichi Post Office.
Please come and see the Onomichi Hanpu!

帆布は、北前船などの帆に使われた厚手の綿織物です。
この帆布をカバンなどの日用品に作り変えていくこと、それは古くから港町として栄えた尾道のシンボルである帆布の伝統を再生する試みでもあります。
工房内ではひとつひとつ丁寧に作られた商品が並び、奥では職人が作業している姿もみることができます。
場所は、尾道郵便局のとなり。
ぜひ、尾帆帆布に触れてみてください‼︎
