We’re now officially in Autumn according to the meteorological calendar 📆

😎It might feel like some Summer is over too soon but there is still plenty to look forward to as we enter “cosy season” ☕️🧣🪵🍂

It's National Fossil Day! 🦴🪨

✨ Would you believe that these ammonites are hiding in plain sight within the city centre? One is embedded in the wall of a historic Medieval church, while another can be found in the Roman Wall 🧱🏛️

What may look like a plain old wall (as plain as a 2,000-year-old Roman wall can look, in any case!) can actually have some fascinating secrets hidden within! 🌀

🔍🕵️‍♀️ If you'd prefer a more refined fossil hunt, head straight to Colchester's museums. Both Hollytrees Museum and the Natural History Museum have an amazing array of million-year-old (and even older!) treasures, including woolly rhinoceros teeth, mammoth tusks, and even the 150-million-year-old fossilised skeleton of a dinosaur (nick-named Juliasaurus) at Hollytrees Museum! 🦖

Authors in Type is a new FREE exhibit, fittingly on display at Colchester Library: a showcase of the incredible work of artist James Cook who is known worldwide for is intricate landscapes and portraits created entirely with a typewriter!

Running from 6 October to 3 November, the exhibition features famous literary figures that will appear in his upcoming book "Authors in Type"📖 Look closely and you might even spot some hidden messages in the artwork! 👀

The Christmas Light Switch-On Parade is coming to the High Street on Saturday 14th November, bringing colour, music, sparkle and festive cheer through the heart of the city.

Expect a magical evening filled with performers, community groups, festive characters, dazzling costumes and that proper Christmas feeling as the parade leaves Mercury Theatre at 5pm.
