✨ Theatre Review ✨
Looking for your next theatre night out? A haunting new adaptation of The Picture of Dorian Gray is on at the Devonshire Park Theatre until Saturday. Read on for our review…

A bold, stylish and visually spectacular adaptation of Oscar Wilde’s gothic masterpiece.

From the opening scene, a giant, tarnished mirror tilted at 45 degrees dominates the stage, setting a haunting tone for the story’s exploration of vanity and moral decay.

As relevant today as when it was first written, the performance and hypnotic staging perfectly capture the dark descent of the youth-obsessed Dorian Gray, whose eternal perfection comes at a tragic cost, for him and those around him.

Together, the talented seven-strong cast attacks the narrative with vigour and flawless delivery. Beautifully lit and masterfully acted, this gripping thriller is an unforgettable, modern-feeling theatrical experience.

🎭 The Other Side of Murder is a brilliantly chaotic, paranormal farce running this week at the Devonshire Park Theatre. Read on for our review…🎭

A disastrous family dinner becomes a wildly unpredictable supernatural thriller in this enthralling production, where celebrity culture and domestic deceit collide.

Rufus Hound stars as a washed-up TV medium on the brink. His escalating panic when his uninvited lover crashes a family dinner is a masterclass in physical comedy, while mother-in-law Susie Blake steals the show, delivering comedy gold.

Fast-paced dialogue and an avalanche of illusions and supernatural twists across an impressive set create a thrilling second half, culminating in a sensational and unexpected final twist.

This dark comic thriller from director Philip Franks is a fantastically fun night out and the perfect antidote as the dark nights draw in.

The Other Side of Murder is on at the Devonshire Park Theatre until Saturday – book now @eastbourne_theatres for a spooktacular night of comedy and suspense you won’t forget!

Stepping Out is on stage at the Devonshire Park Theatre until 29 August! Read on for an Eastbourne Theatre Ambassador review and book tickets via @eastbourne_theatres

We wanted to begin with the finale, an absolutely show stopping moment. The classic time step sequence under the low curtain was brilliant and delivered with such precision.

The lighting (by Ryan Tate) and set design (by Julie Godfrey) deserve special mention. The lighting was beautifully judged throughout: warm and bright for the rehearsal scenes, spotlights that highlighted the dancers’ footwork, and a wonderfully theatrical lift during the finale that made the whole stage feel electric. The set was simple, believable, and cleverly detailed, created the perfect community church hall atmosphere. It allowed the cast to move freely while still giving the audience plenty to look at.

The entire cast were outstanding, and we especially loved watching the dance routines performed by Karen Hauer. Every character was played with such enthusiasm it felt as though we were watching an opening night. The actors made their characters genuinely relatable, which made the performance even more enjoyable and we laughed from start to finish.

We would definitely see the show again. Written by two sisters who enjoyed ballet and tap lessons from the age of four upwards.
