Cross your fingers for me, please!

I finally finished my first ever knit wool sweater and I'm blocking it. EEEK!

Thanks to @unwind_gr for hosting an awesome class. I would NEVER have built up the courage to knit a sweater if it wasn't for that class. Sadly, it won't be blocked in time for the Sweater Weather Fiber Fest this weekend, but I'm so proud of myself for finishing this insanely time consuming project.

More photos to come once its all dry and tastefully documented. 😘

Lots of marigold dye batches happening in the kitchen/studio. 😘 🌼

Earlier this month I got the chance to swing by @voguefabrics while in Chicago and I couldn't help but pick up some goodies for dyeing.

Silk organzas, velvet, ribbons, and a few other small cuts for dyeing with flowers. I'm not looking forward to saying goodbye to the marigolds, so I'm harvesting as much as I can, while I can! by @vivkrish.art

A great start to a quick trip to Chicago!

If you are in or visiting the Chicago area, go there! Its super cute, full of inspiration, and Aaron and @n8nathanathaniel have a lot of knowledge to share.

Spent this morning pounding flowers on the front porch to test out a no heat process with the Hopi red dye amaranth.

My first attempts of using dried out amaranth did NOT work! I made a dye bath and I think the heat killed the color. Although its always a little disappointing when dye projects don't work out, experimenting is most of the fun.

The garden is looking rather colorful right now so I also included marigolds, a few cosmos, snapdragons, and gomphrena on this large piece of pre-mordanted white canvas. by @vivkrish.art

jewelry stash cast no. 1 ✨

paper pulp, mohair, glass beads

Super excited about how the first paper necklace casting project came out! Lots of details mimicking the tiny gems and pearls from my Indian jewelry hoard. I had some neon yarn, so I made a simple square knot chain with a handful of beads.

My first attempt at casting jewelry was at another one of @it_e_what_it_be workshops. It was a bangle and it ended up breaking after being moved a couple of times (should've added hinges). I'm so glad I got to learn this technique.!

My super cool pal @it_e_what_it_be led an amazing paper casting workshop this weekend at @chicagopulp 🔥

All of us had the best time making molds of our personal items and then using those hardened mold to cast with paper pulp. What a time!

What a summer it has been so far!

Over the past few months I have been rediscovering some things: what I want out of a studio space, what my art practice looks like, my green thumb, how unorganized I can be when it comes to my own stuff, and how I fit into the new community I'm part of now.

The garden has been an outlet and inspiration for a lot of my creativity this summer. It's a special experience to plant specific seeds for future projects and to harvest and use them in my work. I'm excited to share what I've been working on!!!

So here are a couple photos of today's Hopi Red Dye Amaranth harvest.

I got these seeds 5 years ago at a @olympiafarmersmarket stall and I was shocked that they germinated. They struggled early in the season but LOOK!
This might be something I grow every year because its absolutely stunning. (Couldn't help but get new seeds from @bakercreekseeds )

Hey Champaign-Urbana friends!

This Sunday from 1-3pm, I’ll be hosting a drop-in watercolor workshop at @akayarns 🎨 💌

$15 at the door gets you access to all the supplies you could dream of to create your own stationery masterpieces!

Lately, I’ve been leaning into snail mail (to be fair I’ve always been a devoted pen-pal). There aren’t many joys quite like opening a thoughtfully crafted letter from a friend, but it turns out the making of letter is pretty satisfying too! If you are looking for something fun and chill to do this Sunday, join us in making some cute cards to send to loved ones.

🎨 Looking forward to another amazing watercolor workshop with @vivkrish.art next Saturday. Vivian has been leading art workshops on the farm since 2021. Her teaching style is both accessible and playful.

If you’re looking for something to get you into that creative “flow state” or just have fun with some friends and family, please sign up.
