There are two kinds of Tom Yum Goong: the clear broth (nam sai) and the creamy one (nam khon). Chef Verasak has a favorite, and he isn’t shy about it. 🦐
Lemongrass, galangal, kaffir lime leaves, bird’s eye chilies, lime juice, fish sauce, roasted chili paste, and plump shrimp, all coming together in one pot. Hot, sour, rich, and creamy from the first sip to the last.

I’ve always liked finding Thai restaurants that show a different side of the cuisine, and ViV Thai @vivthainyc is doing exactly that 👾

After 17 years on 9th Avenue, ViV has been completely reimagined with a Thai Modernism design - think terrazzo floors, warm wood, bold details, and a golden dragon overhead, creating a space that shifts from refined daytime dining into a more energetic Bangkok-inspired nightlife atmosphere 🌙

But the part I was most excited to try was the Khao Tom Experience. This centers around Khao Tom Gu, a comforting Thai rice porridge that becomes the base for a spread of flavorful, fiery sides. Instead of treating rice soup as just a starter, ViV turns it into a whole social dining ritual where you build your bowl with different dishes to mix and match 🧩

I love that this is something you don’t see in every Thai restaurant in NYC. It feels rooted in Thai food culture while still fitting perfectly into the late-night energy of Hell’s Kitchen. Between the new look, regional Thai flavors, cocktails, and the Khao Tom Feast, ViV Thai feels like a completely new chapter for a longtime NYC Thai restaurant 🌶️ taken in ViV Thai by @vivthainyc
