Ya girl hit a hang clean PR of 125lbs today and I had to share because I’m STOKED 😜 Had to pump myself up for this one after failing the first time. Sometimes you just gotta un-psych yourself ;)

Also stoked to be in the gym at the same time as a couple other STRONG ladies. It’s been a rough couple weeks to say the least and maybe a teensy bit of anger helped my lift a bit today šŸ™ƒ by @vkewers

It’s hot out there folks. Don’t be thirsty.

Make yourself a @skratchlabs ā€œVeronicaā€ bottle with 20g carbs and 1600mg of sodium 😜

I’ve tried probably 6 times to write a post to put into words how appreciative I am to have been invited to the @auber93cyclisme Tour de France Femmes training camp here in Boulder. I’ve met some amazing, hilarious, strong women and got to spend time with a couple of my closest friends who I didn’t know when I’d see ever again. I met so many of the incredible people of @skratchlabs and CU Boulder’s Applied Science program under the direction of Dr. Kim.

This was all thanks to Dr. @allenskratch. He asked me if I’d want to join this camp a little over a month ago. He suggested I treat it as an experiment for myself, to be curious and open based on where I am at given my time away. He goes where help is needed and he gets shit done. Thank you Allen, for giving me the opportunity to test the waters again, reminding me why I love cycling, and believing that I can come back stronger someday. I’m coming away from this camp with motivation, knowledge and new friendships. Thank you thank you thank you Allen, Skratch labs, Dr. Kim and students and the St. Michel team!

My oh my what saying ā€œyesā€ can do. A lot of beautiful memories built during this time of recovery. Funny how fruitful your life can be when you prioritize human connection and being present (thanks @r_mcgregor ā˜ŗļø). Check out my Substack for a little deeper chat about saying yes lately :)

Second ride on the road since November šŸ˜šŸ«  it’s so nice to get outside on two wheels but DAMN am I out of shape. That’s part of the process I suppose... I hate it and I love it at the same time. Shoutout to the Girl Scouts in Moscow for selling my mom some cookies though.

Sometimes it starts small… a few missed snacks, pushing through a bit more fatigue than usual… but it’s a slippery slope.

Hopefully hearing Veronica talk about this so openly will show you that you don’t have to figure it out on your own.

If something feels off, reach out to someone you trust: a parent, partner, friend, coach. That first conversation can make all the difference. And were here to help point you towards tried and trusted experts too.

Got to adventure with my favorite person this weekend to celebrate my finishing midterms and the ā€œlittleā€ brother officially becoming a PhD candidate in Chemistry after successfully defending his prospectus last week (you decide which is more impressive šŸ¤“šŸ˜‚).

I don’t get to see him as much as I’d like but I always value the moments I do. He’s a talented goofball and I’m a very proud big sis.

Wait till the end to enjoy his skills in replicating a song without actually knowing the lyrics 🤣 by @vkewers

A day after international women’s day I want to keep the momentum and take the opportunity to share some recent knowledge I’ve gained. It’s a bit sad that as a 31 year old, I’m just now learning a lot about the female menstrual cycle and hormones. And if you are reading this as a person who does not house the organs that produce the menstrual cycle, this information is still important. And, if you are ā€œgrossed outā€ by talking about periods and what not, then it’s also time to grow the f$*k up.

One of my favorite professors, presented this information a few weeks ago and I believe more people need to be aware of it.

Key takeaways from this presentation (please note this presentation was focused toward females within the ā€œfertilising yearsā€, but the information below applies to and benefits everybody):

🩸Females NEED their period for long term function. Period. (pun intended)
šŸ’‰Get blood testing done when you can to identify your baseline sex hormone levels so you can ensure it stays within range as you age and experience changes. Ask for cortisol, estradiol, progesterone, FSH (follicle-stimulating hormone) and LH (luteinising hormone).
šŸ‘ØMen, please recognise and try to understand what women experience. Yes, there are times during our 28 day cycle when we are particularly emotional. However, our hormones don’t make us less capable. Empathy goes a long way.
šŸ‘©ā€šŸ¦°Ladies, the better you understand your own cycle, the better you will understand why you might feel a certain way at a given moment.
🧠Finally, and almost most importantly, don’t believe everything you see or hear on social media or in the world. If someone is claiming something, do your research (using expert and scientific evidence) and think about the claim more critically. **This includes what I am telling you here!**

The world of bodies and nutrition has been exponentially overcomplicated at the moment, with a ridiculous hyper focus on thinness among women (which is another tangent). If you don’t have basic function, then something is off within your body. Focus on the function and not the form.

Thank you to my professor @ann_e_frost for taking the time to present this information! by @vkewers
