TEAM SUMBIOSIS — VALENTIN AVON

As I slowly return to social media after a particularly intense first half of the year, I wanted to start by highlighting someone whose help and commitment have been invaluable during the six months he spent working alongside me.

Valentin Avon @vn_valentin joined Atelier Sumbiosis at the beginning of the year and quickly became involved in many aspects of the studio, from research and experimentation to production and the organisation of the workspace.

A graduate of @designacademyeindhoven in Product / Textile Design, Valentin develops a practice at the intersection of textiles, materials and objects. He notably collaborated with the @textielmuseum in Tilburg, where he developed a hybrid textile-metal material. His project « Symbiosis of Things » was a finalist for the Dorothy Waxman International Textile Design Prize, and in 2025 he won the emerging designers competition organised by Zuiver Interior Group.

During his six months in my studio at @le_jad_fr , Valentin contributed to many projects: the Maison d’Exceptions fair, the development of new tools and processes, the organisation of the studio, the making of new art pieces, as well as the development of the « Objets en devenir » project for Paris Design Week.

His commitment and energy have been particularly precious during this very demanding period for the studio.

A huge thank you, Valentin, for everything we shared, built, tested, solved and sometimes improvised together. Wishing you all the best as you continue developing your own practice, and I’m already looking forward to collaborating again on future projects! by @vn_valentin

SYMBIOSIS OF THINGS

Symbiosis of Things is the development of a hybrid material of woven textile and metal fibres. Referring to interspecies symbiosis, the project combines the flexibility of textile with the structural properties of steel and copper.

In collaboration with the TextielLab, the professional workshop of the @textielmuseum, this project reappropriates a jacquard machine to develop a technique for working with a combination of metal fibres and yarn. The result is a collection of three structural objects and a tapestry that demonstrate the different possibilities of this new material, which is both textile and metal.

COPPER TAPESTRY

Made with the @textielmuseum the Copper Tapestry is the association of textile and metal fibers.
Part of the collection ‘SYMBIOSIS OF THINGS’, the tapestry embodies the properties of both textile and copper at the same time, creating an hybrid material
