V.O. artist Laila Majid’s first institutional exhibition ‘Inner Heat’, in collaboration with Louis Blue Newby, is on view at Goldsmiths CCA until 12 January 2025.

The exhibition brings together meticulously crafted drawings sourced from the digital sphere, and sculptural elements inspired by public infrastructure, to examine the tension between private image consumption and the public realm. It invites viewers to reflect on how we interact with images and reconsider their transformative journey from creation to consumption.

Former resident Joseph Yaeger’s solo exhibition ‘Heaven’s Trash’ is on view at Antenna Space, Shanghai, until 4 January 2025. Inspired by Roland Barthes’ concept of ‘the punctum’, Yaeger’s work examines the tension between attraction and disturbance. His cropped compositions, both jarring and enticing, blur the boundaries of legibility, revealing and withholding just enough to evoke a charged sense of emotional and spatial ambiguity.

V.O artist Sunil Gupta is featured in ‘The Imaginary Institution of India: Art 1975–1998’ at the Barbican, on view until 5 January 2025. This major exhibition examines a pivotal period in India’s history, marked by social upheaval, economic collapse, and rapid urbanisation.

Gupta’s series ‘Exiles’ captures gay men against iconic New Delhi landmarks and cruising sites. These images explore the profound challenges faced by gay men at a time when homosexuality was still criminalised in India.

Last chance to see Jean-Marie Appriou’s solo exhibition ‘Exonaut Horizon’ at Perrotin Paris, closing on 16 November. Drawing on Egyptian and Greek mythology, the exhibition transforms the gallery into an immersive environment with sculptures in aluminum, bronze, marble, and lava, ranging in scale. Inspired by cosmic discovery, his works inhabit a realm beyond reality, populated by mythical beings and primordial matter in transformation.

Alessio Bolzoni’s solo exhibition THERE’S A FINE LINE BETWEEN LOVE AND HATE, YOU SEE is currently on view at 56 Conduit Street and runs until 6 July. The exhibition interrogates the overwhelming reproduction of imagery in contemporary culture through Bolzoni’s distinct series.

In Accumulo, each diptych pairs a reappropriated black-and-white photograph from the 1950s and 60s with a recent color image sourced from newspaper reproductions. This juxtaposition of old and new invites viewers to reflect on the cyclic nature of visual motifs and the inevitable repetition in today’s image-saturated culture. by @vocurations

We are delighted to announce the opening of ‘THERE’S A FINE LINE BETWEEN LOVE AND HATE, YOU SEE’, a solo exhibition by Alessio Bolzoni, on view from 21st June to 6th July at 56 Conduit Street.

Reflecting on the inundation of images in contemporary society, Bolzoni appropriates archival photographic images and stitches together diverse periods and places, probing at today’s excessive production of imagery and the somewhat bemusing consequence of unintended repetitions. Bolzoni’s work has a knowing, self-critical edge as he participates as a contributor to this excess himself, whilst also exploring the comfort and continuity found in familiar images.

Private view: Friday 21st June, 6PM - 8PM at 56 Conduit Street.

During this momentum Adama Keïta and Henrique J. Paris will be engaging in an open and interactive conversation on the crossroads of drawing a curatorial landscape through Stuart Hall’s essays on the foundation of cultural studies ( 1990 - 2000 ) . The speakers will discuss the subtle and dense links between the artist’s body of work and the curator’s thinking in relation to the selected essays for the exhibition “ weaving through sonorities “ .

Adama and Henrique will be discussing ideas surrounding themes of culture , race and representation extracted from Stuart Hall critical essay , and in continuity to this : how the curatorial process becomes a form of translation , translating Hall’s thinking into a visual and materialized experience that encourages different interpretations and reflections.

2. Sandra Poulson at the Arsenale, Biennale College Arte

Sandra Poulson presents her commission for the Biennale College Arte, located in the Arsenale. The exhibition Stranieri Ovunque – Foreigners Everywhere is described by the curator as ‘a celebration of the foreign, the distant, the outsider, the queer, as well as the indigenous’. This marks Poulson’s second Venice Biennale participation, following her commission for the British Pavillion’s Dancing Before the Moon presentation at the Architecture Biennale last year.
