Stumbled across the most adorable sight today in the pouring rain. Newly hatched baby snapping turtles emerging from their nest! The yawn is the sweetest thing! 🐢

For the love of our wild canid neighbours. 🐺🦊

Foxes, coyotes, and wolves all belong to the canid family.

Featured here are an Eastern Coyote, Red Fox, and Algonquin Wolf. All of these photos were taken this year, along with two of my favourite recent tattoos by Brock, owner of Nine Graves Tattoo & Barber Shop, inspired by my love for these incredible animals. @9gravesbrock

Do you have a favourite wild canid? If so, which one and why? Do you have a canid tattoo? If you do, I’d love to see it. Please share in the comments! ❤️

Do you prefer reels 🎥 , or swiping through photos 📸 ?

I wonder if this reel will get more action than the photos alone? It was challenging to select only a few images….. do you have a favourite in this set ?

How many of my friends actually watched and gave a ❤️, comment or 🔁? If you did, please know I’m reaching out to reciprocate the ❤️‍🔥💞💓

Wild, beautiful, and unapologetically a predator. Grateful for this encounter as I was recently saying to Jack, I haven’t photographed a red-tailed in a while……

An unforgettable 90 minutes observing this magnificent juvenile Red-tailed Hawk. From practicing its hunting skills to successfully catching a squirrel, I had a front-row seat to nature doing what nature does. Very excited to sift through more images from this set.

📸 Which image would you choose? 1, 2 or 3?

🌿 A reminder to please stop using rodenticides (rat poison). Squirrels, mice, rats and other animals can consume poisoned bait, putting predators like hawks, owls, foxes and coyotes at risk of secondary poisoning.

Protecting predators starts with protecting their food sources. ❤️

What an incredible privilege to spend over an hour and a half observing this gorgeous juvenile Red-tailed Hawk today! ❤️🦅

I watched as it practiced its hunting skills with a pine cone, pouncing on it repeatedly, then it swooped toward a flock of Canada geese wandering nearby, and eventually successfully hunted and ate a squirrel.

Photos to come! 📸 (they will come with a graphic warning)

I have such a deep love and admiration for all birds of prey, but Red-tailed Hawks hold a particularly special place in my heart.

These magnificent raptors have a varied diet that includes squirrels, mice, rats, rabbits, other birds and snakes, to name just a few.

This is just one more reason that I will always advocate against the use of rodenticides (rat and mouse poisons).

When a hawk, owl, fox, coyote or other predator eats a poisoned rodent, it can become poisoned too. These chemicals can cause serious illness, internal bleeding and even death. Our beloved pets, including dogs, are also at risk.

These incredible predators play an important role in maintaining balance in our ecosystems and naturally help control rodent populations.

We should be protecting them, not poisoning the very food they depend on.

Please choose poison-free rodent control methods and help educate your family, friends and neighbours.

Protecting wildlife starts with the choices we make. 🌿❤️

Ruby-crowned Kinglet in the rain. These little cuties never stay still! Best thing about birding in the rain if you ask me….. no humans.

If you look, actually take the time to look and be present, you will see beauty all around. 🌻

I was photographing Indigo Buntings and almost missed this cutie! 🥰

A little piece of summer. 🌻

A juvenile Indigo Bunting perched among the sunflowers. No brilliant blue feathers yet, but beautiful in its own way.

Sometimes it’s worth stepping back and letting the whole scene tell the story.

Very grateful to the CCPC @theccpc for inviting me to be a guest contributor and for selecting one of my Short-eared Owl images for this piece. 🤎🦉

Short-eared Owls are my favourite owl, and a species I care deeply about. Photography has given me an opportunity not only to share their beauty, but also to help educate others about them and the importance of protecting the habitats they depend on.

Thank you, CCPC, for allowing me to be a small part of this important conversation. Be sure to check out the Canadian Conservation Photographers Collective, and if you’d like to see the work they are doing to help Owls 🦉, here is the link
