Happy @monsterhuntergame Wilds Launch Day, everyone! Please enjoy this cut of our 9-day speed build, inspired by the #MHWilds Hope Great Sword!

This project is almost entirely Eva foam, with some steel and carbon fiber added as reinforcement. I got to use one of my favorite tricks for cast metal effects: toilet paper and liquid neoprene! A quick silver dry brush over this texture, and you can get some great rough metal looks

Eva foam makes for great leather, and a bit of plastic bag wrapped around a paintbrush works wonders for simulating leather texture. The stitching was by far my favorite part and really sells the leather look

The Sword is a bit over 6'tall but only weighs 8lbs! I'll have another video on the build of the display stand soon. Monster Hunter Wilds is out NOW, so happy hunting!

This is Gekko! And Wingman, and Thrash, and Dizzy, and Mosh Pit. We created this life-sized statue for @valorant - and while the concept and design has been running since last September, all physical fabrication was completed in the first month of 2024!

This has been a dream of mine since I visited Riot Games headquarters in 2013 and saw the many life size statues around their campus. Back then, I was just one person in a modest sized shop. I knew there was no way to do something like this alone. The process was gradual; I built my studio, our reputation. We always made our deadlines and exceeded expectations. Clients trusted us more and more with increasingly complicated projects and NDA IP. We took some risks, and through the stress and worry, they paid off. I've been very lucky, and I've worked hard to take advantage of that luck.

Over the last ten years, I've worked with some amazingly talented artists who have helped me reach this goal. For Gekko, those artists are:

We've made full-scale statues in the past, but nothing this elaborate, complex, and detailed. It was exhausting and difficult, but I couldn't be more proud of this milestone. Thank you to my amazing crew and everyone who lent their talent to this undertaking. It is, quite literally, a dream come true.

The best look at our #armoredcore mech so far! This install was at a private game play preview event hosted by Bandai the week before #SDCC. Our crew flew out for install and to train the set crew for setup at future events. We wrapped up setup at about 7:30pm which turned out to be the *perfect* time to capture the lights and smoke effects. The thrusters turned out SO COOL! Thanks to @bandainamcous for the project, looking forward to what monster sculpture comes along next!

Our latest for @playoverwatch!

The Overwatch World Cup trophy was one of the first in our esports journey, made back in 2017. Overwatch has changed a ton sinve then and Blizzard wanted a redesign for the return of the tournament. This version is based on concept illustrations I did in 2017, which makes this the first trophy in a loooooong time that evolved from one of my sketches

Of course I had @designbyfair take the reigns on 2D work to polish my napkin scribbles into something far more elegant. 3D modeling by @squiby_props who *definitely* enjoyed modeling all the globe polygon topography

Shooting some big chrome! This piece eventually went to the floor of the New York Stock Exchange, which is a really weird thing to think about for a self taught propmaker who started out painting stuff hanging off the side of a rusty barbecue grille

At least I have a future in making faux mylar balloons

Valorant Champions Shanghai. One of our most complex esports projects to date!

@valorantesports came to us with a simple ask: recreate the trophy from their anthem music video in real life, then ship it to the other side of the planet. Sure!

Some trophies only require 2 or so artists to complete, but literally everyone in the shop had a hand in this. Casting, cleanup, welding, paint, machining, plating, even writing a 12-page unpacking and assembly manual. Like Valorant, a team effort!

It's good to be back! We haven't had a Blizzcon project in a long while, so it was nice to get back on the esports train with the Classic Cup and the Overwatch World Cup this year!

I finished my steel Maellum replica from #expedition33!

Really enjoying my recent forays into metalwork. To get ahead of comments about this not being how you're supposed to make a sword: I'm aware that most of this is incorrect! Just think of it like a steel sculpture in the *shape* of a sword. It's a display piece and it makes me happy

Finished!

This project kicked my ass. Which seems appropriate, given the character who carries these things

Started last year, shelved, picked up again last June. I stopped counting hours spent sanding after 100 and total number of parts after 200. They've got lights, a smoke machine from @costronica, and even cooling fans!

Built as my 26th anniversary present to @sew.angry, which gives me a superb excuse to never make these ever again!

Special thanks to @jackmonkeyfx for helping me sand this mountain of parts, and @whimsydealer for the advice on printing TPU foam. Base model done by @3demon_3dprint, though I remodeled everything from the wrist down for weight and electronics space.
