[SOLD] Gucci by Tom Ford FW2002 Ebony Bead and Wood Cross Necklace

This ebony necklace from Gucci’s FW2002 collection, designed by Tom Ford, features a bold wood cross pendant suspended on a long strand of meticulously crafted ebony beads. Worn by Natalia Vodianova in the campaign and featured extensively on the FW 2002 runway. The understated tassel detail and intricate knotting lend it a subtle elegance, making it a versatile piece that can be layered or worn as a statement accessory.

In good vintage condition, wear includes scuffing on the beads and the tassel. Comes with a Gucci box and dust bag (not the original ones).

The 2007 Gucci Indy Bag is a groundbreaking style by Frida Giannini in her early years of her creative leadership at Gucci.

Its curved handle reminiscing the steering wheels of vintage sports cars, while the bamboo accents and cascading leather tassels added classic Gucci feature to it.

A conceptual dialogue between YSL FW1999 & The Face of Another(1966)

YSL FW1999 Campaign, “Theatre of Seduction”, photographed by Philippe Cometti during Alber Elbaz’s brief tenure at the house, presents fashion through an unsettling lens of identity and appearance. The black and white images uses masks, double faces, and ambiguous bodies to disrupt conventional ideas of portraiture and gender. Faces are skin to be worn, exchanged, and performed in this campaign.

The Face of Another(1966) by Hiroshi Teshigahara follows a man whose face is severely destroyed in an accident being given a lifelike mask. As he begins to living with this new face, the mask unsettles the boundary between appearance and identity.
The mask breeds the true self of his, and it’s nothing but terrifying.

The surface is powerful through the gaze. In The Face of Another, the protagonist’s new face changes the way others respond to him. And consequently, the way he begins to behave. In the YSL campaign, masks and displaced faces similarly interrupt our instinct to read identity through appearance, making us conscious of our own gaze as viewers. In both, identity is shaped not only by what is worn, but by the act of being seen.

Mask, Surface, Gaze, Performance, Identity. Both The Face of Another and YSL FW1999 challenged the idea of a fixed self behind the appearance. If the surface changes how we are seen, and being seen changes how we perform ourselves, perhaps identity is not something hidden underneath at all—but something continuously constructed between ourselves and the gaze of others. by @vothearchive
