NEW FACULTY SPOTLIGHT💡🗣️ Today we highlight Alyssa Kuhns! Alyssa is a design educator and registered architect whose work mediates the scope of products, materials, interiors, and architecture. We asked Alyssa some questions to welcome her to the WAAC! 1. What inspired you to pursue a career in your profession? I have always loved solving puzzles, and when I started to learn about architecture in high school, I realized design activates a similar part of the brain and is really about problem solving. Since then, I have sustained a passion for architecture and design by continually learning new aspects of the field. 2. What have you most enjoyed so far about your time at the WAAC? I’ve really enjoyed working with the students and faculty at WAAC. The structure here allows for many one-on-one interactions with students where I can quickly get to know them and their interests, especially in relation to their architectural education. 3. What is your favorite fall/seasonal coffee order? Somehow, I have survived being an architect who doesn’t drink coffee. I do enjoy a London Fog with almond milk and the occasional (or frequent) Red Bull. Welcome Alyssa! by @vt_waac
Teams from colleges across the D.C. region, including Virginia Tech, took over the National Building Museum’s Great Hall for a one‑day design charrette. The architecture students tackled a real local design brief and built ideas fast. It was hands-on, collaborative, and exactly how design gets done. by @vt_waac

NEW FACULTY SPOTLIGHT💡🗣️ Today we highlight David Kennedy! David is an Assistant Professor of Practice and teaches courses on architectural design, building technology, and design-build. We asked David some questions to welcome him to the WAAC! 1. What inspired you to pursue a career in your profession? It was only after I began my architectural education that I felt a passion for it. My desire for creative expression and problem solving found a place where they were welcome and encouraged. So, I’d say that I have something of a romance with my discipline; I like architecture, and architecture likes me. 2. What have you most enjoyed so far about your time at the WAAC? Many of the students are new the Alexandia and the DMV. I am too. It’s fun to learn about the city together. 3. What is your favorite fall/seasonal coffee order? Black, hot. Welcome David! #virginiatech #architecture #architectureschool #waac #architecturestudent by @vt_waac

NEW FACULTY SPOTLIGHT 💡🗣️ Today we highlight Michael Ezban! He is an Assistant Professor who also serves as Coordinator of the Master of Science in Architecture, Urban Design Concentration program. We asked Michael some questions to welcome him to the WAAC! 1. What inspired you to pursue a career in your profession? A really great experience in graduate school at the University of Michigan (after 7 years working professionally as an architecture designer) planted the idea in my mind that a career in academia could be challenging and fulfilling. 2. What have you most enjoyed so far about your time at the WAAC? The WAAC is a laboratory, a flexible workshop for creative experimentation. The place inspires me to explore new pedagogies, new ideas, new subjects in my teaching. 3. What is your favorite fall/seasonal coffee order? Doesn’t matter what time of year: the order is always a nonfat latte. Except when I am in Italy, then it is caffè in vetro (espresso in a glass cup). When in Rome….. Welcome Michael! by @vt_waac
Yesterday we hosted our Hispanic Heritage month event at the library! It was a great turnout with food and crafts to celebrate Hispanic independence.
