Last post because I am in my feels right now, I canโ€™t believe our journey is over! Everything feels like a blur. Iโ€™m sitting in the airport terminal right now already missing the places and people that made this experience so special. Iโ€™ll never forget Bettina and her bike, Drew getting sushi in every country, Dr T and Alexi after the wine tasting, Annaโ€™s Dutch braiding, and that one hot stuffy bus ride. All the sleepy early mornings, all the beef tartars, all the laughter, all the inside jokes, I want it all back already. I am so proud of how far we came as a group and I will cherish these memories forever. Thai food reunion at Dr Ts whoโ€™s in:) Mila signing off! by @vteconabroad

Today marks the end of Virginia Techโ€™s Tourism Economics study abroad! We all left at different times but some of us had the same flight! The biggest thing Iโ€™ve learned this trip is that tourism is a double edged sword for hosting countries. While tourism rakes in unfathomable amounts of money, oftentimes it comes at the expense of local residents, environmental degradation, and even the quality of the tourists visits.

As our unforgettable journey from Amsterdam ๐Ÿ‡ณ๐Ÿ‡ฑ to Rome ๐Ÿ‡ฎ๐Ÿ‡น comes to an end, I want to take a moment to share how incredibly proud I am of each and every one of our students. Over the past few weeks, they embraced new cultures, stepped outside their comfort zones, asked thoughtful questions, and created memories that will last a lifetime, all with curiosity, kindness, and open minds. โค๏ธ From exploring vibrant cities and hiking in the breathtaking Swiss Alps to visiting international institutions, participating in hands-on cooking and mosaic art classes, and engaging with local communities, they approached every experience with enthusiasm and a desire to learn. It has been a privilege to watch them grow not only as students, but also as travelers and global citizens. ๐ŸŒŽ

We are excited to see where their future journeys take them next, and we know they will carry the lessons and experiences from this adventure with them for years to come. As we conclude our time abroad in Rome, we invite you to meet our incredible students who made this experience so special. โญ Here are the first two students, sharing their favorite cities, meals, memories, and most meaningful moments from this remarkable journey. โค๏ธโœˆ๏ธ๐ŸŒ

1. Laura Casazza chose Luxembourg as her favorite. When it came to food, Italian cuisine quickly became a favorite. Some of her most memorable moments included visiting Urk and seeing the iconic Matterhorn in the Swiss Alps. Among the many educational experiences on the trip, the cooking class and our visit to SHAPE stood out as particularly meaningful.

2. Alexi Vo chose Rome as her favorite city. Interestingly, one of her favorite meals was the pasta she had in Brussels. Her favorite memories included visiting Urk, experiencing the beauty of the Swiss Alps, and enjoying evenings exploring Frankfurt with friends. The past 19 days have flown by, filled with unforgettable experiences, new friendships, and so many special moments. ๐Ÿ“ธโœจ It feels like we just arrived in Amsterdam, and now here we are saying goodbye in Rome.

Day 19 ๐Ÿ‡ฎ๐Ÿ‡น our last day in Rome before everyone flies home tomorrow โœˆ๏ธ

We started the day with a mosaic workshop ๐Ÿงฉ, followed by some free time โ˜€๏ธ, class presentations ๐ŸŽ“, and then our farewell dinner ๐Ÿ๐Ÿฅ‚.

I canโ€™t believe Amsterdam ๐Ÿ‡ณ๐Ÿ‡ฑ was 19 days ago. The time flew by โณ, but I think thatโ€™s because we had such an incredible experience together ๐ŸŒ and made so many amazing memories ๐Ÿ“ธ along the way.

What a wonderful group of bright, kind, and thoughtful students โœจโค๏ธ. It has been a privilege to travel, learn, and share this journey with all of you ๐Ÿค—.

I will miss you all. โค๏ธ
