There’s still room to volunteer with us this Saturday, 9/12 at Liberty Lands! 🌱

We’re teaming up with @sprucefoundation and @nlna_northernliberties for a morning of hands-on projects to help care for this community greenspace, including garden path repairs, tree maintenance, and more.

And stick around after we volunteer because VU PHL is turning 9! 🎉 We’ll head over to the Liberty Lands stage for pizza, beer, and a little birthday celebration with friends, volunteers, and the VU community. 🍕🍻

On Saturday, September 12, we’re teaming up with @sprucefoundation to support @nlna_northernliberties and help care for Liberty Lands, a community-run greenspace in the heart of Northern Liberties.

Together, we’ll spend the morning getting our hands dirty with projects around the park, including repairing garden paths, tree maintenance, and clearing out the compost area. No experience needed, just come ready to pitch in!

And there’s another reason to stick around: we’re celebrating Volunteering Untapped’s 9th birthday! 🎂 After volunteering, join us for drinks and appetizers, meet more of the VU community, and learn about ways to get involved.

We’re looking for a few new folks to join our board and help us continue Building a Service Community in Philadelphia.

If you love bringing people together, giving back to Philly, and helping make volunteering feel fun and accessible, we’d love to hear from you.

We’re currently looking for:

📣 Marketing Chair
Work alongside our Marketing Director to help spread the word about volunteer opportunities, events, and all things VU PHL.

💸 Director of Fundraising
Help us dream up and lead fundraising efforts that keep VU PHL going and allow us to invest back into our volunteer events and community partners.

You don’t have to be a longtime VU volunteer to get involved. We’re looking for people who are excited to contribute their ideas, skills, and energy to our community.

📣 Our August volunteer event is live! 🖍️🎽👖🎒 Join us on Saturday, August 8 as we volunteer with Cradles to Crayons in their Giving Factory, helping sort and package clothing, school supplies, books, and other essentials for local children. It’s a hands-on way to make a real impact, and a great opportunity to meet new people while giving back.

Thank you to everyone who joined us last Saturday at John Heinz National Wildlife Refuge! 🌿 @johnheinznwr

Our volunteers spent the morning out in the field removing invasive plants and helping care for one of Philadelphia’s most important natural spaces. It was a hot day, but our crew showed up ready to work, and we’re so grateful for everyone who gave their time 💪🪏🌱

Just one day later, Philadelphia experienced a powerful storm that caused significant damage to trees and green spaces across the region. While storms like these remind us how vulnerable our natural environments can be, they also highlight why ongoing stewardship matters. Caring for parks and protected habitats isn’t a one-time effort. It’s something that takes a community showing up again and again 💛

July Afterjawn Details ahead ☀️🍧 After we wrap up at John Heinz National Wildlife Refuge on Saturday, July 11, join us for a sweet treat at @pops_waterice.

We’ll head across the street to Marconi Plaza to cool off, relax in the shade, and get to know your fellow volunteers a little better. Feel free to bring a picnic blanket or lawn chair and stay awhile.

🌿 Our July volunteer event is live, and registration is now open! Join VU PHL on Saturday, July 11 as we partner with John Heinz National Wildlife Refuge at Tinicum for a morning of giving back in one of Philadelphia’s most incredible natural spaces.

Together, we’ll help remove invasive plants that can crowd out native species and disrupt local ecosystems. It’s a simple but meaningful way to help protect the refuge and keep it healthy for wildlife and future visitors.

Thank you to everyone who joined us for our June volunteer events 💛

We started the day with @sharefoodphilly, where volunteers helped pack and sort food boxes at Share’s Volunteer Center in support of their work to get food to neighbors across the Philadelphia region. Share Food Program hosts volunteer opportunities multiple times a month for anyone interested in getting involved.

Later that afternoon, volunteers joined @btb_philly to help select and process around 180 books that will be sent at no cost to incarcerated people. If you have extra books at home, please consider donating them to Books Through Bars. Their website includes a list of current book needs and donation guidelines.

We’re grateful to everyone who gave their time and energy to support these meaningful community efforts.

Kick off Philly Beer Week with your favorite group of volunteers! 🍻👋 Our annual fundraiser is happening this Saturday, May 30 where we’ll be hanging at @triplebottombrewing and @lovecitybrewing.

Not familiar with our mission? We volunteer around Philly every #SecondSaturday morning. Afterwards, we tap beers at the bar, tap into new connections with other young people, and tap into new opportunities through giving back and inspiring change in our community. Next month, we’re hosting TWO volunteer opportunities across Philadelphia on Saturday, June 13. Make a difference in your community (and meet some great people) with VU PHL 💛

🥕 Morning Shift: Share Food Program ⏰ 9AM–12PM 📍 3111 W Allegheny Ave

Join us at @sharefoodphilly as we help sort and pack nutritious food for neighbors across the region. Share Food Program supports hundreds of thousands of people each month through a network of community organizations, schools, and food distribution partners.

📚 Afternoon Shift: Books Through Bars ⏰ 1:30PM–3:30PM 📍 4722 Baltimore Ave

Meet us at @btb_philly where we’ll help sort and process books to send free of charge to incarcerated people across six mid-Atlantic states. Their work supports self-education, healing, and access to resources behind bars.
