Nineteen years ago, you made me a mama, and somehow, we’ve been growing through life together ever since. Now I get to watch you step into manhood, and I couldn’t be prouder of the person you are becoming.

Every time we talk and I hear about the people you’ve met, the memories you’re making, and how much you’re enjoying this new college life, my heart fills with so much joy. You’re living, learning, laughing, building relationships, and already becoming someone others trust and turn to. That says so much about the heart you carry.

And of all the dorm rooms you could’ve been given, ***Room 111** a number that has always meant so much to us. I can’t help but see that as God’s little reminder that you are exactly where you’re supposed to be, covered and guided through this new chapter.

As you turn 19, my prayer is that you protect the goodness in you. Stay humble enough to listen, wise enough to learn, strong enough to admit when you’re wrong, and confident enough to always be yourself. Be coachable. Keep building bridges. Keep bringing others across with you. Relationships will take you places talent alone can’t.

There is greatness and legacy in your bones, son. Stay the course, keep God first, and never forget who you are.

Keep living. Keep growing. Keep making memories. This is your life and I love seeing you live it.

Happy 19th my guy.

I love you forever. 🤎 by @vunesuh

And now we’re here.

College. Basketball. A new home. New people. New responsibilities. A whole life neither one of us has ever navigated before.

For the first time, I don’t get to know every detail. I don’t get to fix everything. I just get to trust the kid I raised and remind him of the greatness he carries and the legacy already written in his bones.

It’s such a strange feeling watching the little boy who rode through life with me start driving down roads of his own.

Go live, kid. Go learn. Go grow. Go hoop. Find your way and become everything you’ve worked so hard to be. I’ve got you from wherever I am.

8 today. 🥹

Javey, you’re the kind of kid who makes life more fun just by being in it. You can go from performing an Oscar-worthy scene, to teaching us a magic trick, to singing, dancing, jumping rope, asking 111 questions before lunch, and somehow still finding time to be the sweetest, most thoughtful little human in the room. And if my camera comes out? Whew. 😂 You stay camera-ready, locked in, hitting poses nobody asked for and fully committed to the assignment every single time!!
You have the biggest heart, the funniest personality, and a curiosity about the world that never quits. For so many years, you’ve happily shared the spotlight while cheering on your Big brother, Trae, & all of the Lobos you’ve come to love as brothers too and never asking for more. But with Trae heading off to college, I find myself excited for a whole new chapter with you, more adventures, more firsts, more memories that are just ours. What a gift it’s been to watch you grow into exactly who God created you to be.

Happy 8th Birthday, kiddo. Don’t ever lose that big heart, that wild imagination, your love for being in front of the camera, or your title as the undisputed King of Questions. I love you more than you’ll ever know. 🤍🎈👑📸 by @vunesuh

Watching your little boy slowly become a man is such a strange, beautiful thing.

I think one of the hardest parts about motherhood is realizing the little moments were actually the big moments the whole time.

The school drop offs.
The random late night talks.
The rides home after games.
The grocery store runs.
The “mom look at this” moments.

Then one day they’re standing in a cap and gown and you feel this heaviness in your chest.. wondering how time moved so fast.

Watching Trae graduate was one of those moments I know I’ll replay in my heart forever. Especially watching him hold up that State medal and point to me. Not just because of the accomplishments, but because I got to witness the journey of who he became along the way.

Smart. Resilient. Humble. Driven.
A good kid with a good heart.

And as a mom… that’s the real win.

Go Be Great Trae’!

My heartbeat forever!

I’m sitting here watching my son’s senior night video & the emotions I feel are overwhelming. Not because the night was perfect. Not because the score went our way. Not because the moment looked like a highlight reel, but because I know the story behind every clip. The early mornings. The late nights.
The injuries that slowed him down but never broke him. The waiting. The unanswered questions.
The emotions that come when you feel unseen in something you’ve given your heart to. Basketball has been his love, but it hasn’t always loved him back the same way & that’s a hard lesson for a young man to learn, when effort doesn’t always meet opportunity the way you hope it will. What people will remember about senior night isn’t the score. It won’t be the stats. It won’t be the minutes. It’s the memory. The walk with your family. The lights. The crowd. The feeling of closing a chapter you gave years of your life to. Senior night isn’t about winning a game. It’s about honoring a journey, and his journey had real emotions in it. There were moments of frustration. Moments of disappointment. Moments where he had to learn how to manage feelings that felt bigger than him. But growth isn’t about never feeling upset. It’s about learning how to carry those feelings without letting them carry you. I’ve watched him learn not to let people who didn’t believe in him steal his joy. Not to let small-minded energy dim his light. Not to let quiet doubters write his story for him. Because it takes courage to stand in the arena with a kid who’s trying. It’s easy to critique from the sidelines. He stayed. He kept showing up. He kept believing. Even when it was hard. Even when it didn’t make sense. This kid holds a 4.4 GPA. He’s not out here chasing parties or noise. He’s chasing purpose. He’s learning discipline. He’s learning how to show up when life doesn’t feel fair. He’s learning how to keep his joy intact in rooms that don’t always celebrate him. Basketball is a chapter in his story, but it is not his identity. To my son: you are allowed to feel, grow, stumble & still become GREAT. Protect your joy, your heart, & never let people who couldn’t carry your dream for you try to define it. by @vunesuh

Traetyn,

18. Wow. Eighteen years, 6,575 days, and a lifetime of lessons in between.

Trae, I can’t believe we’re here. I still see the little boy who used to run around with endless energy, and now I see the young man standing at the edge of adulthood, ready to step into the world with his own name, his own voice, his own path.

I thank God for trusting me with you. You’ve been my greatest teacher! Showing me patience, purpose, resilience, and love in its purest form.
Watching you grow has been my favorite story.

Always Remember:
-Protect your authenticity. Don’t trade who you are to impress people who wouldn’t trade for you.
-Lean into the uncomfortable. Growth doesn’t come from what’s easy, it comes from what stretches you.
-Value your circle. Real friends don’t just cheer when you win, they remind you of who you are when you forget.
-Know your worth. Never settle in relationships, friendships, opportunities, or life. You are the prize.
-Keep your faith first. The world will try to shake you, but stay grounded in HIM.

You’ve got everything it takes to build the life you dream of son…discipline, talent, intelligence, heart, and charisma.
Don’t rush it, but don’t waste it either.

I am so proud of you. I can’t wait to see the man you continue to become, the boy who grew with me, fought with me, and made it out with me.

Welcome to 18, kiddo.

I love you forever.

More life!

Javey Jones!!!

My guy! How are you already 7?! You came into this world full of energy, wonder, joy and somehow, every year you just turn up the volume.

You are the definition of pure light..a cartwheel-spinning, flower-planting, grass-mowing, dancing ball of sunshine. There is never a dull moment with you around, and honestly… we wouldn’t have it any other way.

You work hard, love big, sing loud, and dance like the world is your stage. You cook, garden, explore, question, and create with your whole heart. You are curious, free, wildly smart, & endlessly compassionate and watching you grow is one of life’s greatest gifts.

Your spirit is free like Tarzan, your laughter is contagious, and your heart? Oh man..your heart is GOLD. ❤️

Thank you for being exactly who you are. Never stop being bold, brilliant, barefoot, and beautifully YOU.

I love you, kiddo. Here’s to 7 wild, wonderful years and so many more adventures ahead. 🥳💫 by @vunesuh
