The 21st edition of Contemporary Istanbul was a beautiful opportunity to bring together different parts of my practice.

Alongside presenting my works with Martch Art Gallery, I opened the doors of my studio for an evening with friends —clay on the shelves, the city in the windows, and a conversation around “May We Meet in the Silence of Our Souls.”

It felt meaningful to let the week extend beyond the fair and into the studio: a space for conversation, exchange and unexpected encounters.

I’m grateful for the moment to share not only the work, but some of the questions and connections.

Contemporary Istanbul’un 21. edisyonu, pratiğimin farklı yönlerini bir araya getirmek için çok güzel bir fırsat oldu.

Martch Art Gallery ile işlerimi sunmanın yanı sıra, bir akşam stüdyomun kapılarını dostlarıma açtım — raflarda killer, pencerelerde şehir ve “May We Meet in the Silence of Our Souls” etrafında gelişen bir sohbetle…

May We Meet in the Silence of Our Souls has grown through years of making, observing and listening, returning to questions around our relationship with ourselves, one another and the natural world.

Recently, I had the pleasure of launching the book at my Istanbul studio, in conversation with Şebnem Kırmacı, founder of ArtDog Istanbul.

Thank you to everyone who joined us and brought their own presence and perspective to the evening. Seeing the book become a starting point for new conversations felt like the most natural way to mark this moment.

Now available at @arteristanbul and @patikakitabevi in Istanbul.

Special thanks to @coffeedepartment

May We Meet in the Silence of Our Souls, yıllar boyunca üretmenin, gözlemlemenin ve dinlemenin içinden şekillendi; kendimizle, birbirimizle ve doğayla kurduğumuz ilişkiye dair sorulara tekrar tekrar dönerek…

May We Meet in the Silence of Our Souls, İstanbul’da Arter ve Patika’da okurlarıyla buluşmaya devam ediyor.

May We Meet in the Silence of Our Souls is the first book dedicated to my artistic practice, bringing together more than four years of research and three exhibitions shaped around the idea of Emanet, what is entrusted to us, and what we carry forward with care.

I’m happy to share that the book has found new homes. It is now available at Arter and Patika in Istanbul, and reaching readers in the United States through The University of Chicago Press.

It feels meaningful to see its journey continue across places and into new hands. May it keep finding new hearts, new stories, and quiet moments of connection along the way.

May We Meet in the Silence of Our Souls, sanatsal pratiğime odaklanan ilk kitap.

At the end of their long and difficult journey, the birds searching for the Simurgh finally arrive.
And there, looking into the water before them, they see their own reflection.
—after Attar, The Conference of the Birds

Water witnesses our passage.
Holds our memories and promises.
Like a faithful friend….
She becomes a mirror to our soul,
Reflecting back not who we imagine to be, but who we have become.

Last month, we were delighted to lead a generous listening workshop for the leadership team of the Museum of Fine Arts, Boston, one of the most esteemed museums in the Americas, home to a collection of more than 450,000 works. It was deeply meaningful to share this practice with people who understand, perhaps better than most, what it means to hold something in trust.

Generous listening begins with an intention, and like a muscle, it grows stronger each time we practice it. Every time we choose presence over assumption, curiosity over certainty, and connection over transaction, we deepen that capacity in ourselves.

Museums listen deeply to the past, so that humanity can move toward the future. My heartfelt thanks to everyone at the MFA who brought their openness, their courage, and their generosity into the circle, and for placing your trust in this work.

Some conversations stay with us long after they end.

During Conductor Art Fair, I had the pleasure of sitting down with Eric Shiner, President of Powerhouse Arts, for a conversation around a concept that has quietly shaped both my life and my artistic practice: Emanet.

This conversation also echoes many of the reflections that found their way into my book, May We Meet in the Silence of Our Souls. The book is, in many ways, an invitation to slow down, to listen more deeply, and to rediscover our relationship with one another, with nature, and with what has been entrusted to our care.

To me, emanet is more than something entrusted to us. It is an invitation to care, for memory, for one another, for the world we inhabit, and for what we choose to leave behind. It reminds us that nothing truly belongs to us; we are simply its temporary guardians.

I hope this conversation offers a moment to pause, reflect, and perhaps recognize the many forms of emanet in your own lives.

If you would like to watch the full conversation, you’ll find the link in my profile.

My heartfelt thanks to Eric Shiner for such a thoughtful and generous exchange, and to the entire Powerhouse Arts family for creating a space where art, literature, and meaningful dialogue can come together so naturally.

“Freedom of expression is important, but everyone also has the right to be heard.” — @vuslatds

Following a series of workshops on the Tufts campus, Vuslat Foundation founder and president Vuslat Doğan spoke to Tufts Now about the origins of generous listening, the listening journeys that shaped the framework, and why universities are among the most important places for this work to take root.

She reflects on the three dimensions of generous listening, to oneself, to others, and to nature, and on what becomes possible on a campus, and in a world, where everyone has the space to be heard.

Another season, and back at Tufts once again.

This time I was here not to teach, but to share and open up the generous listening framework we at the Vuslat Foundation have been building over the past four years.

I wanted to offer a taste of what the Generous Listening experience actually feels like, and to think together about how we might spread the culture of generous listening at Tufts and beyond.

There is something quietly moving about returning to a place and finding the conversation already deeper than where you left it. Generous listening is not a lecture you deliver. It is something we practice together, in the room, and this workshop reminded me again how much happens when people simply lean in with curiosity and openness.

To everyone who took part, I am truly thankful. For your curiosity in generous listening, for your willingness to sit with the unknown, and for your trust in us.

Special thanks to Çiğdem Talgar, Vice Provost for Education, Office of the Provost; Dayna L. Cunningham, Pierre and Pamela Omidyar Dean, Jonathan M. Tisch College of Civic Life; Peter Levine, Associate Dean for Academic Affairs and Lincoln Filene Professor of Citizenship & Public Affairs, whose commitment and enthusiasm in spreading the culture of Generous Listening has been invaluable in carrying this work forward.

And thank you, Jonathan M. Tirrell, Director, Vuslat Foundation Generous Listening and Dialogue Initiative, for being a wonderful guardian of Generous Listening at Tufts and GLADi.

This is the work: learning to hear one another, so that we might coexist in peace and flourish together.
