Hello! Though not officially part of #nziff we are hosting our own FREE film screening of Bacurau (2019, 2h 11min).

Bacurau, a small town in the Brazilian sertão, mourns the loss of its matriarch, Carmelita, who lived to be 94. Days later, its inhabitants notice that their community has vanished from most maps.

Come join us to watch the film, discuss community organising and socialist politics 📢

Tri 2 public talks 😈 part 2!

Top 5 Lines of the Communist Manifesto

"Page for page, no other publication of our time has rivaled the historical impact of The Manifesto of the Communist Party by Karl Marx and Friedrich Engels,"

- Hal Draper, Adventures of the Manifesto

Mass paperback editions of The Communist Manifesto are universally stocked in every bookshop, yet the seeds of its program haven't sprouted. It is known virtually everywhere but its contents are somehow invisible. Regardless of even its unfortunate absorption into capitalism, it still stands as one of the most significant pieces of political literature that still inspires the struggle for liberation, 178 years after its publication. For us communists of today, what does it say to us, how do we read it, and how do we apply its ideas in Aotearoa? Come find out next Tuesday!

Tri - 2 Public Talks 🧐📣

Socialism vs. The Climate Crisis

The Climate Crisis looms. Each year is hotter than the last, and 'natural' disasters continue to worsen. Capitalism is the root cause of this crisis. It is not the result of a few bad actors, but inherent to the coercive logic of the market economy and capitalist competition. Efforts to convince capitalists and politicians to reform have not worked because they have as little control over it as the rest of us. The only way out of the climate crisis is through revolution - to move to socialism by smashing the state and forcibly putting the economy into workers control. How do we get there? Come find out next Tuesday!

🏳️‍⚧️ AGAINST THE “DEFINITIONS OF WOMAN AND MAN” BILL

-

Image description: a series of text posts against various red-tinted background images of protests and marches for trans rights. Each slide has the header “international socialist organisation aotearoa” and body text in white.

Image 1: Transgender symbol flag amidst a crowd at the National Trans Visibility March in Washington DC, 2019. Title: Against the “Definitions of Woman and Man” Bill. Body text: Following in the footsteps of innumerable waves of anti-trans legislature in the US and the UK’s Supreme Court decision last year, the coalition government ensured that, on 20 May, “Legislation (Definitions of Woman and Man) Amendment Bill” passed its first reading. It is now with the Select Committee and submissions on this Bill will be accepted until 2 July. Ahead of the National Day of Action for Trans Rights on 13 June, ISO is making the following submission against this Bill – you can read it on the next slides – but it is crucial that, as well as submitting against this Bill, we join in solidarity with our LGBTQI+ communities to fight against it.

Continued in comments. Text post with red tinted background image of trans symbol flag. by @vuwsocialists
