Episode 2 of the greatest roads series brings us another genuine contender for the best road in the country - this one surprised me.

This absolute gem of the South West is nestled on top of Exmoor national park among a dense network of gorgeous driving roads.

However, what makes this one so special is the location and the flow of the road, with 12 miles of glorious, varied tarmac, the steepest section of A-Road in the country and one of the most incredible views I’ve seen in the UK as you come towards the end of the route.

So it turns out this car is far rarer than I thought.

I knew there weren’t many manual 335i Tourings sold but this really surprised me.

To summarise…

160 E91 335i Tourings registered between 2006-2012 - all specs, trims, colours, gearboxes etc.

Of those 160, in 2026 we have;
- 20 SORN
- 91 Automatics
- 39 Manuals

One of 39 is already a wild stat.

But looking specifically at manual N55 cars, it looks like this might well be the only one in the UK…

N55s were in the 335i 2010-2012, and it appears there were no registrations in 2011 or 2012, and only one in 2010. And by process of elimination, that one registration must be my car??

I think I’m going to need some help to investigate this one properly and see what the BMWs actual numbers say…

Episode 4 in the road trip series brings us South of the Scottish border to a region in the North of England that I don’t think gets enough credit for how good the roads are.

@cambr.app shows the North Pennines as having the highest density of great roads of any region in the UK, and having visited, I can see why.

I also teamed up with the legend @outlaw_l322 and his absolutely bonkers M57 swapped 116D track weapon for this one to get some local knowledge of the roads. Tom is putting out loads more content out on his build and having driven it, that’s something you definitely want to see, so follow him!

This might be the best road in Scotland…

It was my favourite, but interestingly @cambr.app actually disagrees with me on this one.

It’s by far the twistiest and most technical road I drove on the trip, but also the most engaging.

This little gem is nestled amongst the trees in Loch Lomond National Park and might prove that the best driving roads aren’t actually in the highlands.

What is the best road on the NC500?

I drove the whole thing to find out, and also to see whether the Scottish Highlands contains one of the best roads in the UK.

There might be one road we’ve missed here that we’ll be having a closer look at in the next video so stay tuned…

And that’s a wrap! Highlands, Lowlands, Pennines, Dales, an impromptu meetup with @outlaw_l322 and all the way home in just a few days.

Over 2,700 miles in just over 2 weeks and the car ran like an absolute champ the whole way (bar a couple of wee issues which we’ll get into soon…).

We used @cambr.app the whole way and got some invaluable learnings out of it and some proper testing miles done. It’s basically ready, keep an eye on your emails…

Next leg of the NC500 took me from a hectic nights wild camping on Sandwood Bay Beach on the northwestern tip of the country all the way down to Gairloch. The weather up here is absolutely insane.

I’m cooked but theres much more to come yet.
