Thank you Spring Hill College for 196 years and counting of nothing short of legendary experiences.

Forever blessed by the transformation of virtue, purpose, and brotherhood this place gifted me. Grateful for the relationships made and for all of the heroes who have kept the Spring Hill Experience golden for generation after generation.

Never would I have imagined what this little Hill could do for so many lives. It is truly because of this Hill that a little boy became a man of Christ.

Thank you, Spring Hill, for letting me live my dream. Forever a Badger 💜♾️

Forever indebted! Thank you, Spring Hill! 🌄

Thank you for the opportunity to share the joy, the gifts, and the miraculous work that the Spring Hill Experience has brought to the Class of 2026 and the world around us.

There is no greater exemplification of these gifts than through the heroes who climbed this Hill before us.

Purple Heart hero Stephen Karopczyc taught us the gift of service, sacrificing his own life by jumping on a grenade to save the lives of his fellow troops and preserve the freedoms we hold dear. That kind of courage did not begin on the battlefield. It began right here on the Hill. Today, we continue to live out that spirit of service in our communities, across our country, throughout Europe and South America, and around the world.

Thomas Edison’s chief engineer and innovator of one of the first hearing aids, Miller Reese Hutchison taught us the gift and significance of being heard. In a world filled with noise, truly listening to one another has become rare. Yet here on the Hill, we have seen ideas come to life, friendships formed, and lives changed simply because someone chose to listen and believe in another person.

Astronaut Clifton Williams taught us the gift of dreaming boldly, choosing to go to the moon not because it was easy, but because it was the dream he was called to live. From this little home on a hilltop, he showed generations that no dream is too distant, no calling too great, and no horizon unreachable for those willing to keep climbing.

Forever cherish your gifts. Serve others. Listen deeply. Dream boldly. And in all things, give glory to God, the one who gave you those gifts.

In the words of Jesus in John 21:6, quoted by our mentor, hero, Badger, and friend, Professor John Eads: “Cast out your nets and get someeeee!.”

Over the course of this semester, a group of Badgers and I have had the opportunity to join the greater Mobile community at St. Ignatius with Men of St. Joseph.

I have never felt more alive and more ready to run through a wall than I do with this group of men.

This morning, I had the opportunity to share John 14:1–12.

After washing the feet of the Apostles, after betrayal and denial, and knowing the Cross was coming, Jesus still chose to comfort on the eve of His greatest sacrifice.

“Do not let your hearts be troubled.”

This is our strength. This is our truth.

It does not mean life is easy or that it’s all sunshine and rainbows.

It means we do not have to stay troubled.

We move forward!

It’s not through the absence of fear, but through the presence of belief.

Belief that the Holy Spirit is with us and working through us daily. Guiding us. Calling us to greater works.

It’s beautiful to see that these words exist only because Philip and Thomas were humble enough to ask a couple questions.

Questions led to truth.

Truth led to one of the greatest statements ever spoken:

“I am the way, the truth, and the life.”

Choose humility.
Choose to ask questions!

In the midst of His suffering, He comforts others. That is the standard Christ gives us.

So the call is clear, here:

Choose to serve.
Choose to comfort others.
Choose to carry your cross.
Choose humility over ego.
Choose to glorify Him in everything you do.

He is the way when you feel lost.
The truth when things feel unclear.
The life everything else points toward.

In all that we do, may God grant us the serenity to accept the things we cannot change, the courage to change the things we can, and the wisdom to know the difference.

St. Joseph, Terror of Demons, pray for us ✝️
