Hi, there!👋🏾 Welcome to my bookstagram account where I’ll yap about, ya know, books.

I’m getting back in the swing of content creation and having a daaaaamn good time, so I’m excited for y’all to join this journey and help me get better along the way. 💙

“You can leave that here at our house.”

This is what my parents told me when I wanted to lug a *very* heavy trunk full of books with me across state lines.

The books came. 🫡

📚featured:
• Jacqueline Woodson - Another Brooklyn
• Rasheed Newson - My Government Means to Kill Me
• Taffy Brodesser-Akner - Fleishman Is In Trouble

Little Calvin would be pretty fuggin’ impressed, to be honest.

📚featured:
• Joshua Ferris - Then We Came to the End
• Ling Ma - Severance
• Nick Hornby - High Fidelity

The trip that started my love affair with Paris…

📚featured:
• Maria Semple - Where’d You Go, Bernadette
• Dinaw Mengestu - How to Read the Air
• Andrew Sean Greer - Less

Je’tudie francais but I’m still soooo elementary with it. Where are the French men who want to tutor me? 😅

📚featured:
• Leila Slimani - The Perfect Nanny
• Gael Faye - Petit Pays (he’s also an amazing musician!)
• Georges Simenon - The Madman of Bergerac

Shout out to therapy. 🙌🏾 But also…don’t waste your time with it if you’re going to ignore the concept of growth. 🤷🏾‍♂️

📚featured:
• Jessamine Chan - The School for Good Mothers
• Terry McMillan - How Stella Got Her Groove Back
• Celeste Ng - Little Fires Everywhere

I’m curious if I should talk about my writing ambitions here. Feels like a safe space? 😜

📚featured:
• Gotham Writers Workshop - Writing Fiction
• Verlyn Klinkenborg - Several Short Sentences About Writing
• Susan Shapiro - The Byline Bible

We’re keeping it queer this spooky season. 😱

Did I know what I was getting into when I picked up Chuck Tingle’s “Fabulous Bodies” and Raphael Monte’s’ “The Secret Dinner”? Nope! Maybe for the best because the horror is taking me by surprise and I loooove it.

Alright, follow @walkerthereader for more book content. 😎

PS: what’s on your spooky TBR? 🫡

Ready to sleep with the light on?

Horror is pretty fantastic year round, but you gotta admit: there’s always an extra layer of spookiness in the air come October. 👻

Here are 7 reads (5 novels, 2 anthologies) from the last 30+ years that will definitely make you double check the locks before climbing into bed. 👀😮‍💨

Look at how excited I am. 👀 Apparently all I need is a good book and a jar of pickles.

Yes, I judge books by their covers. Luckily, @theredwheelbarrowbookstore in Paris has nothing but quality options to choose from.

In honor of @sugababes announcing a new album (🤯), here are 8 books dealing with complicated relationships that fit the vibe of their new single, ‘Ghost.’

Also made a Sugabooks cocktail: 1 oz @ginengine paired with some orange @slice and a chili-spiced pineapple wedge. A little sweet heat to get over, no? 🫡

Books featured:
• Josh Silver - Fruit Fly
• Brandon Taylor - Real Life
• Curtis Sittenfeld - Rodham
• Sloane Crosley - Cult Classic
• Gabrielle Zevin - Tomorrow, and Tomorrow, and Tomorrow
• Jackie Ess - Darryl

Courtney Maum’s “Alan Opts Out” introduced an important topic (ie overconsumption) but the character tropes were shallow and left me wanting more (no pun intended). 🫣

Still! It was entertaining in parts and I actually feel like I learned a thing or two about pacing while I work on my own manuscript. That’s a huge win in my book (pun totally intended). 🤭

Why am I still surprised that bell hooks’ book, ‘All About Love,’ was the inspiration behind one of the best albums of the last year or so? I see (and hear) you, @oliviadeano.
