Why wear a hat in the sauna?

Sauna hat protects your head and hair from overheating during sauna sessions. The head is most sensitive to sauna heat - you may feel dizzy, your hair can get excessively dry and brittle, the capillaries in your skin open up and may even break.

Capillaries are particularly taxed by heat, and over-exposing them to high temperatures can do real damage. All of this can make bathing in sauna a less pleasant experience.

The theory behind the sauna hat is that it provides a barrier
between the heat and your head, so that the sweat you produce actually has a chance to evaporate ind cool the air in the cap.
So the cap has to be pretty thick while at the same time allowing same air to circulate. Caps are made out of wool felt, which is both thick and cool in the sauna.

Leah McSweeney douses herself with cold water at our bathhouse.

“This is my oasis for relaxation and detoxing.” - she said.

Ms. McSweeney had no problem finding herself at the spa. After maxing out at 10 minutes in the sauna, she threw herself into the ice-cold plunge pool, then recovered with a warm shower, which left her feeling serene, floaty.

“You’re aligning your body mind and soul,” she said.
In the brightly lit restaurant, back in her robe, she relaxed with a ginger juice and a bowl of vegetarian borscht.
