This festival is complete but now we work all year @synonymartconsultation
POSTS STORIES REELS TAGGED
Hi everyone!

It’s September, and that means it’s Wall-to-Wall Mural & Culture Festival time! This year is even more special, as we will be celebrating our 10th and final edition!

After 10 fun-filled years operating as a month-long festival, Wall-to-Wall will expand to a year-long operating model, bringing even more programming to our province and beyond.

From epic block parties to intimate concerts to curated art exhibitions to memorable drag shows, Wall-to-Wall is known for its unique community-minded events. By breaking out of the mold of a festival, we will be able to present events throughout the year, with more care and creativity given to each one.

While our formalized youth mentorship program will no longer be in operation, we will continue to incorporate capacity building into all of our projects, offering unique learning experiences to artists, regardless of age.

And of course, most importantly, this shift will allow us to take on even more mural projects with added curatorial and artistic rigor. Through ongoing community consultations and partnerships, we plan to grow upon the grassroots contemporary street art movement we are so grateful to be a part of and to continue to beautify all of our public spaces, together!

So, stay tuned for announcements about this year’s new projects and also join us here to reminisce about some of the major accomplishments we have been a part of over the last 10 years! Let’s do this!!

Love,

This will be our first September without our beloved mural and culture festival, Wall-to-Wall.

We started this festival over a decade ago to bring more art and culture first to the core areas of Winnipeg, then across Manitoba. It was a massive success and after much consideration, we wanted to shift to a year-round model.

So here we are, continuing to offer unique events and both public and private art commissions 365 days a year, thanks to our ongoing partners and clients. While we miss the adrenaline of a festival model, this feels like the most sustainable way forward for us, the artists, and the community.

If you’re looking for art, sound, and drag, you know who to call ☎️

“Fly Like An Eagle”

It was an absolute honour to support @bucketsandborders for @walltowallwpg. This organization is so thoughtful and has such a huge impact where ever they go.

Once we heard the results of the community led Call For Submissions was our dear friend @totemdoodem we were so stoked.

A Winnipeg based Artist with a love for art and basketball Jordan (@totemdoodem) was selected as the artist to design the full on -court mural at St. John's Park which is titled "Fly Like an
Eagle".

"Utilizing my signature eagle, my hope is to encourage flight on the court. This mural represents my love for basketball. "

Jordan's works are deeply rooted in the traditions within contemporary Indigenous culture. As an Anishinaabe individual originally from Peguis First Nation, Jordan uses his life experiences to drive his artistic passions.

Thank-you so much to @totemdoodem @bucketsandborders @lenardmonkman and the whole crew for making this piece and community celebration happen 🙌

Another day, another beautiful mural! Ten Yetman’s Tigers on Another Planet with Rainbow Laser Fun Clouds is going up at 254 Edmonton! ✨

This pop-surrealist piece is called "Tigers on Another Planet with Rainbow Laser Fun Clouds" and is a continuation of Ten's recent work featuring creatures from another world. This piece is infused with 60's Sci Fi technicolor and features two tiger-like beings who coexist on another planet with powerful beings that resemble clouds that shoot lightning and rainbows while communicating with ultrasonic waves.

Artist Bio

Ten Yetman is a visual artist born in Winnipeg, Canada. After attending the Fine Arts Program at the University of Manitoba (2004-2009) she spent many years living in Mexico City and afterwards in Nagoya, Japan teaching art classes and exhibiting her work. Heavily influenced by her experiences abroad, her work explores cultural and historical expressions of death and immortality. After moving back to Canada in 2013 she has been continuing to paint and exhibit work in Canada and the United States.
Ten's work is a seductive hyper-juxtaposition, referencing both fun bright colours and patterns, parties and beach scenes and "uncomfortable" images of horror. Her most recent work features creatures of her own invention and has been heavily influenced by the cemeteries of Real de Catorce, Fellini Films, DEVO music videos, 80s's fabrics, Renaissance Art, 1950’s and 60’s Sci Fi films, Monty Python, Space Travel and British Literature. taken in Winnipeg, Manitoba by @walltowallwpg

Shaneela Boodoo, Mahlet Cuff and Chukwudubem Ukaigwe

Sylvia Wynter proposes the human as homo narrans, which is looking at the evolution of “the human as a hybrid- auto- instituting- languaging- storytelling species.”1 These works presented by Isabel Okoro, Rebecca Bair and Erika Defreitas, embody the exploration of these origins through many of the narratives within their imagery; usage of the ritual, passed down knowledge and imaginings of the future. These works encompass this hybridity as we envision these images as not just a singular event, but rather continuous performances that have lives and potentialities that branch past the still borders of the photo. By depicting an existence that lives within the many sides of humanness, these artists articulate the stories they would like to see outside and past the histories of sealed and chained legacies.

✨ NEW MURAL ALERT✨

Ashley Christiansen’s mural, North End Lights is up at @donsphotoltd on Main Street!

This piece captures the magic in exploring Manitoban beauty with one's camera. The fictional character depicts joy and wonder while photographing the iconic Northern Lights found in the province's beautiful Summers. The artist wanted to bring the stunning colours of the Northern Lights to the urban centre.
.
.
Ashley Christiansen is a Métis Artist who was born in Selkirk, Manitoba and currently resides nearby in St. Clements. She specializes in small, life size and large scale photo realism as well as traditional tattoo inspired work.

Throughout her life Ashley has always been fascinated by art. This interest was cultivated during her school years and further developed when she opted for a profession as a tattoo artist. Upon completion of her tattooing apprenticeship, Ashley opened her own business in 2011: blvckneon. which is a private studio also located in St. Clements.

A huge thank you to our sponsors, @mcphillipsstreetpaint @benjaminmoore @unitedrentals for making this mural possible.
