Rare image of the completely undocumented phenomenon of a bear utilizing an electro-fishing technique. After shuffling its paws on the carpeted bank to build up a massive static charge, it plunges into the river to shock a poor unsuspecting salmon just chillin in the water.

While I was (poorly) capturing some video of a momma bear checking out salmon near the bank, @akreelgirl was capturing some video of me. Having these magnificent bears going about their business so close to us is indescribable.

Series of 10 images of a large bear fishing (my favourites are 1, 2 and 9).

While I generally have some ideas of the types of images I would like to get on a trip, when it comes to wildlife I have learned that my expectations mean very little and to simply experience and have gratitude for whatever comes.

That said, before going to #Katmai this year someone asked what shot I would like to get. While I knew it may not happen, I really wanted an image that conveyed the energy and chaos of a powerful coastal brown bear chasing down and tearing into a bright red sockeye, with water and salmon roe flying through the air as the bear crashed into the river and thrashed the fish in preparation for its meal.

When this scene unfolded before me, I could not believe it was happening. Thank you @sstone_images and @akreelgirl
