The legacy of.Bruce Lee, passed on through two of his main Jeet Kune Do students (turned instructors) Guru Dan Inosanto and Richard Bustillo (I am blessed to have met them both) to students of color. And Bruce Lee’s first American student was Jesse Glover, a Black man. by @warrendrummond

Storyboards from @stuartfails S1 E9 “Spoiler: We Couldn’t Get Green Lantern.” After working with my friends @kylenewacheck and @jonathansfrakes I was introduced to director @mcneill.robbie whom I only knew as “Lt Paris” on Star Trek Voyager. Jonathan told me how cool his fellow Trek star to director was and “Robbie” lived up to it. A consummate pro and very easy to communicate with. DP @isurfsmallwaves (Anthony Hardwick) came back for the last two episodes and we were up and running. And as a comic book fan, I was able to draw Mister Freeze and The (Jay Garrick) Flash. And I chatted with actor @randyridings on set in full costume and he dug my boards which were hanging on set. @kevsussman gave me kind words as well. I had a lot of frames so I kept the non VFX frames rough. Yo, @jimlee !! #stuartfailstosavetheuniverse #storyboards #dc by @warrendrummond

Boards from @stuartfails Ep 108 “Spoiler: We’re As Confused As You Are”. While @kylenewacheck was prepping the episode I mostly worked with DP Grant Smith @cinesmith on this scene. It’s very normal that I might work with a DP especially as Grant and Kyle already worked things out and they have both worked with me going back to 2017. Also, Grant and I compared our “Bert” impressions. It was a visual shift to a grittier look in the battle scenes and I know Grant loved it as did Kyle as they it was different from most of the things they had done in the past. Kripke’s @johnrossbowie back shooting made comedic sense this time. #stuartfailstosavetheuniverse #storyboard #action by @warrendrummond

Storyboards from @stuartfails episode 7 “Spoiler: Dexys Midnight Runners Get A Royalty Payment” part three! This section was mind bending for director @kylenewacheck and director of photography Grant Smith aka @cinesmith . The group of Stuart, Denise, Bert and Kripke ( @kevsussman @laurenlapkus @brianposehn @johnrossbowie ) were first chasing only ONE other version of themselves through different universes but we now are introduced to THIRD version of themselves in combat uniforms. Kyle and Grant created photoboards of this section using three groups action figures separated into “Our Group” “Alt Group” and “Combat Group” with the faces of the actors taped to the doll’s faces. Then, Kyle and Grant planned out each shot as if these action figures were the cast. Wides, mediums, close ups, overs etc. I took video of a small part of this shot planning session to take my own notes as I would be following the photoboard compositions to create my storyboards. The final photoboards were put together with script dialogue by Kyle’s amazing assistant, @josephinesorena . All of this work came in handy as the cast had to play three versions of themselves in different wardrobe and be coordinated with their stand-ins. Then the VFX team @jfo_404 Jason Forster and @cptmaxwell Tom Mahoney did their magic. WHEW!! #stuartfailstosavetheuniverse #multiverse #storyboard by @warrendrummond

Storyboards from @stuartfails episode 7 “Spoiler: Dexys Midnight Runners Get A Royalty Payment” part two. The Stuart gang of Stuart, Denise, Bert and Kripke ( @kevsussman @laurenlapkus @brianposehn
@johnrossbowie ) chasing another version of themselves to a universe with a grass field. This was all planned out by director @kylenewacheck and DP @cinesmith who suggested that the various versions of Stuart and his friends be color coded and each group uniquely named as it was already confusing!

Storyboards from @stuartfails episode 7 “Spoiler: Dexys Midnight Runners Get A Royalty Payment” part one. This is a large sequence that has the Stuart gang of Stuart, Denise, Bert and Kripke ( @kevsussman @laurenlapkus @brianposehn @johnrossbowie ) chasing another version of themselves as the teams cross universes already established in previous episodes. There is even a callback to an anti science universe where Bert is almost burnt at the stake, a fate that later befalls Neil deGrasse Tyson (who guest starred on @bigbangtheory a couple of times) . Director @kylenewacheck and DP @cinesmith had me color code the storyboards so we wouldn’t get the Stuart teams mixed up. And this was the “easy” section of the sequence! More to come!! by @warrendrummond

A little behind the scenes on @stuartfails Ep 6 “Corn Is Delicious”. I was in a scene blocking meeting (when actor and camera positions are figured out) on the Comic Center set (conveniently in the building next to the production office). Meeting me there were episode director @jonathansfrakes cinematographer @isurfsmallwaves (Anthony Hardwick) 1st A.D. @srsthree (Chip Signore) and office P.A. @fizzyizzydizzy (Izzy De Mori) who was the go to rehearsal stand in for the character of “Denise”. The scene had “Stuart” and Denise walk into the shop where they are surprised by “Stuart Prime” an astral projection from another universe who tries to keep our Stuart on track. Anthony stood in for Stuart Prime as Chip stood in for Stuart. As both Stuart’s are played by @kevsussman , Jonathan had to work out choreography where Kevin would be on stage and dressed as Stuart or Stuart Prime and where Kevin’s stand-in would play the roles. The VFX team would head replace the stand-in later when both Stuarts would talk to each other on screen. I would record (on my cell phone) Jonathan directing Izzy, Chip and Anthony as he constructed a 360 degree shot within the scene. Then I gave Jonathan my phone so he could shoot it and I could just observe. I used all of this for reference when I storyboarded. I have attached the two blocking rehearsal passes as well as the final filmed version to the storyboards. “B” is for the blocking rehearsals. Oh yea, I did play the random customer and drew myself as such when I got the job. This was all a lot of FUN thanks to Jonathan. #stuartfailstosavetheuniverse #film #jonathanfrakes #storyboard by @warrendrummond

Looks easy. I’m just thinking “It’s just a door. Open it. Don’t look at the camera. Walk normal. Get out of the shot.” Thanks @jonathansfrakes @laurenlapkus and @kevsussman . If I get another cameo, I want to. Be a Klingon or using nunchaku aka “nun-chucks”. by @warrendrummond
